I looked up what this Cait Corran's book is even supposed to be:
Greek mythology takes to the stars in this steamy, sci-fi reimagining of the tale of Ariadne and Dionysus—the first book in a snarky, queer, lushly romantic duology set in a galaxy of monstrous mortals, bloodthirsty gods, and love fierce enough to shatter the cosmos.
It's literally a romance novel. A heterosexual romance novel that claims to be "queer".

I do occasionally read romance novels and I've noticed more and more that they are trying to push stuff like asexuality and "queerness" into romance even though basically nothing about it changes. Like the blurb will claim the heroine is demisexual or something like that but it's the same normal heterosexual romance that any other book has. So maybe it's just all marketing or something.

Every single book involved in this saga is a queer love story and/or self-insert POC hero fantasy. Cait Corran's behaviour isn't a cause of rot in YA/fantasy literature, it's a symptom of it. The industry has enabled people like her thanks to its obsession with "diversity" that has saw them seek out terminally-online freaks who peddle the right messages. If they had any sense they'd vet the social media of their clients before throwing money at them, or at the very least tell them to shut up while they do the marketing for the book.

Late af but our gOrl

The best part of this was the collateral damage inflicted by the slur "albino snake" because one of the other YA writers peripherally attached to this drama is actually an albino.
:story:
I love these feeding frenzies so much.

The demand for nazis exceeds the supply.

it's ADULT SCIENCE FICTION FANTASY written by mentally ill women, they are totally different!!!!
Ooo... crossover with the SFWA thread incoming?

They've literally become the "hetero with extra steps" meme???

Private torrent site for ebooks, audiobooks etc.

Z Library is back on clearnet. Only difference is you can't download five books a day without a log-in like you used to be able to. Pretty sure it is still ten books a day with a burner email, though.

I'm honestly not much of an audiobook user, but I use

when the mood strikes. Then again, sometimes they have what you want, sometimes they don't. And I'm kind of a Torrent 'tard, I almost never do it, so it seems like it takes me an absurd amount of time to get the file downloaded.

Update: She blamed it on alcoholism and is taking a page from Keffals and claiming to go to rehab. (archive)

How much do these shenanigans even move the needle, I wonder? These SJW books are as fungible as lima beans, purchased by YA librarians and seemingly read by few, barring the occasional weird fluke.

I was actually gonna make a post making fun of how retarded the GoodReads 2023 Best of lists are, but what's the point? It is retarded and we all know it is. I do like how 19 of 20 nominees for the YA Fantasy category are (at least) female named, the one exception being a black male.

I mean at this point the stories behind the books are far more entertaining than the stories within the books.

Every single one of these YA harridans (and they are harridans, gleefully so, even if they've barely passed the age of 20) is a mediocre writer at best. A whole lot of them you can only gawp in wonder at the fact they got trad-pubbed at all, and then you realize why at this point tradpub is a sucker's game.

But really, this whole Cait Corrain mess just shows why you never want to go near this snakepit. Cait Corrain is clearly too unprofessional to merit a contract, even if she were writing at the level of one of the Grand Old Masters (she isn't) (no I haven't read a word of her writing, but I take it as a given she is nothing to write home about). Leaving bad reviews under fake names of your rivals is moron behavior. But at the same time, how much damage did she really do? She didn't even have the time to really leave dozens of bad reviews, or organize a campaign using other people to really carpet bomb anyone. She did something stupid, something grossly unprofessional, and she was caught pretty damn quickly. How long did she get away with this, if her timeline is accurate? A month, at the outside? Forget quickly, that's getting caught almost immediately.

And yet, to judge by the shrieking, you'd think she successfully torpedoed half a dozen contracts, successfully obliterated at least one career besides her own. Nothing like that happened. If anything, the opportunity to shriek RAAAYCISM! is only going to improve the careers of these insufferable mediocrities.

The stupidest thing Cait Corrain did was to give these people exactly what they wanted.

The fact that you can throw a dart and hit an albino in this crowd is just spectacular. I've never even seen one. But you know they're here...... on #Booktwit.

One of the other things that did her in is that she tried to say her "friend" was an overzealous big name Reylo, and the Reylos cross-checked their entire timelines and found no evidence of her. L M A O.

In fact, the Reylos are now saying they were victimized by the author years ago.

Also I have been informed this is not YA, it's ADULT SCIENCE FICTION FANTASY written by mentally ill women, they are totally different!!!!
You know, in the old days alcoholic writers churned out a bunch of rum-soaked classics and then either killed themselves or died of liver failure at 50. Today's authors could learn a lot from them.

Insanely good YA drama:

Author Cait Corrain Dropped by Agent, Loses Partnerships Amidst Review-Bombing Allegations (archive)

Babe Wake Up, There’s New Goodreads Drama (archive)

Receipts of Goodreads Sockpuppeting (archive)

  • Basically, debut author created sockpuppet accounts to leave 1-star reviews on all of the other debut books in her field while leaving 5-star reviews on hers.
  • The Slack chat of these debut authors found out and did a lot of vagueposting about it.
  • Debut author sockpuppeted a second "friend" account so the "friend" could confess to the scheme, making it a case of misguided support instead of Machiavellian intrigue. People quickly realized the "friend" did not exist.
  • Reylo is somehow involved?
  • Ancillary drama includes a black author calling the debut author an "albino snake," which generated discourse about whether it's ableist to call someone an albino, followed by the black author saying if you don't understand African American Southernisms related to snakes, you are racist.
She lost her book deal, her agent, and promotional deals with Illumicrate.
Was her name Glenn Greenwald?

Everything in this book is treated as oddly mundane. We have a sixteen year old girl who just lost her father, has sold everything but the clothes on her back for money, is stranded in a new town with no one to watch her back, and then she just goes on the girly equivalent of a drunken bender and spends all her money on expensive baths and big meals I'd reckon would be considered overindulgent back in the wild west until she's back on the streets because she didn't bother to find a job.

Then this girl, facing starvation and homelessness, has no choice but to give up her virginity and whore herself out so the local brothel will give her shelter, while her fellow whores talk about this vulnerable underaged girl like she's a piece of meat, and it's basically summed up as 'Huh, that was easy. At least I get to eat good now. Oh my god, I'm actually pretty hot in a YA plain girl way!'.

This was a girl who thought it important to mention in the first chapter that she was afraid that she was 'ripe' enough that people would be trying to take advantage of her.

Cait is just so fucking stupid. She couldn't even correctly timestamp her Discord argument with her sock puppet. And leaving six five star reviews on her own? I am offended by this bitch's stupidity. Meanwhile, I bet not a single one of us commenting on this Kiwifarms thread would have made these mistakes. We're too smart & probably most of us are too ethical. And yet, we are the ones that are gatekept out of the industry while this bitch gets $100,000 for her debut novel. !
And despite the above reports, Del Rey did not drop her - they just pushed her release to 2027.
More hypocrisy:

P.S. As I was posting this, Del Rey proved my statement on Cait only being postponed wrong by formally canceling her book. Second screenshot:

And BECAUSE they are all writing the exact same story, they have to create drama to get noticed, and they have to take out the competition somehow. Usually it's just accusing a new book of being racist. Cait was just too stupid to do that; she would have been lauded for it, no matter how thin the evidence was.

The only thing preventing me from enjoying this particular saga more is that I hate everyone involved so damn much that it's hard to even relish the mess.
