Reading this thread makes me wonder why aren't we seeing independent authors take over as happened with Your Boy Zack? He ended up making his own business publishing his comics and helping others. There must be someone who dares to do this. And making books is even easier than making comics.

The people involved in these Twitter mobs haven't got a creative bone in their bodies, hence why being told to make their own book instead of shrieking when they don't get exactly what they want pisses them off so much. That applies to pretty much every other media that has been invaded by SJWs and busybodies. All the discussion about "women in X" is actually about "why I, a woman, can't have my stuff to be as popular as X?". It's jealousy and frustration because all their influence and money can't buy them talent and honest appreciation.

Some weeks ago, I had the misfortune of covering an event for a NGO that had decided to implement gender equality, meaning, they have 50/50 membership now (we haven't yet discover that genders can be infinite). The women who had pushed for this change were, of course, white, young, well educated, and privileged. Thing is, I first heard of this NGO because of an indigenous woman had become part of it years ago due to her work in her community: she became a leader after she helped a bunch of other women who were raped to organize and help each other. I'm sure these rich women are good people, but their experiences aren't remotely similar to what this one woman had brought, and because they can't even fake it, they forced their way in without any of the job she had done herself and alone.

I really do think this is the case. You can feel the resentment and entitlement oozing from every pore when they talk about how hard it is to be them. I'm reminded of an NK Jemisin interview where she complains about having to compete against these "mediocre" white men before she was finally recognised with an award, as if it was a personal insult that the entire publishing industry didn't immediately kiss her ass and hail her as the new Shakespeare the moment she submitted a manuscript. She's got one of the biggest chips on her shoulder that I've seen in a writer.

I read the first book and it was actually fairly enjoyable. The world was interesting and the characters were... well, the world was interesting and pretty well put together. That said, it's pretty obvious that the author has a bit of a grudge and is appealing to a very progressive audience.
