I think you may be confusing a gay man with a faggot. You can be a gay man and yet look at the gay community and find it detestable.

Look at Peter Thiel. If he wasn't outed by Gawker nobody would know he was gay to this day because he believed it was nobody's goddamn business who he fucked. He doesn't prance around in public in drag, he doesn't wear makeup, he doesn't act like a pride parade marching degenerate faggot. He acts like a man, a man who happens to fuck other men in the privacy of his own bedroom without being a public degenerate who pushes his sexuality into everyone's faces.

Then of course there are religious gay men who view homosexuality as a sin and their cross to bear. They, despite being gay, are anti-gay and especially anti-degeneracy. I used to know such a guy. If you talked to him for 5 minutes, heard his voice and observed his mannerisms, it became clear that he was absolutely a homo. Had a wife and 3 kids, basically forced himself to be straight because his religion (Mormonism) told him that being gay was wrong.
