I really don't have a better label than cringe, but some of my favorite documentaries are of these kind of 'cringe' subcultures.

For example this one about tribute bands:

Specifically one about Rush tribute bands:

Or this older one about the Akihabara district that seems to have the same female narrator as the Rush one:

Anyone got any good cringe documentaries to share?

Didn't Zoe Quin or John Walker Flynt have a documentary made about how they got cyberbullied that was a shitshow?

There is also that documentary about 8Chan that was pretty much just one long smear on the site where they had that one Canadian fed informant meth head whose name escapes me who claims to have been "the founder of Anonymous".

The Pepe doc named Feels Good Man is funny on a meta level.
I like watching how fucking salty the creator of Pepe is about a character from his mediocre comic about hippie morons doing lame shit getting co-opted by the "shitposting community".
Instead of capitalizing on it going viral and making a ton of money from merch and stuff, he decided to fight 4chan and lost.

People didn't like Room 237 when it came out, since it was not a Shining documentary, but a doc about retarded autists who put way too much (stupid) thought into the movie. Theories from The Shining being about the holocaust to a re-telling of the minotaur legend are put forward by a succession of proto-lolcows.

They are all equally retarded and don't pass even the first blush of critical thinking. But they inadvertently stumble across some pretty interesting Kubrick lore that isn't captured even in the extensive BTS footage and "official" documentary.

So I guess it's only 3/4 cringe, but well worth a watch if you like autists or Kubrick.

I fully understand and won't argue your point for the majority of MM's work with one noteworthy exception; Roger and Me. This was one of his first docs and while his "style" is still present its not as cringy as his later stuff. Its also one of the few docs that covers the "rusting of the belt of America" era and he does a pretty decent job of objectively covering the downfall/out-sourcing of the Motor City.

Its sad he got so famous and kind of high on his own farts cause he was much more tolerable when he was starting out and he really was/is passionate about the death of his boyhood community (Flint area.)

This take is basically the only MM thing I'm willing to defend and to be fair even it isn't completely devoid of some of his flaws. Canadian Bacon was also made by MM but its a satire and its kinda cheesy too, but you do get John Candy and lots of worthy cameo's so its worth a watch.

Don't pay money to watch Roger and Me but if you ever see it streaming or on the open sea give it a try.

Dankula's videos on Drakkenlord.

The original Brony documentary was a bit cringe too.

I can't remember the name of it but I remember watching part of a shitty Roku "documentary" about the "meaning" of anime that literally was some fag going into anime figurine stores and zooming in on plastic tits while porno music plays. I was absolutely insulted by the barebones coverage of gunpla models. Have no idea if it still even exists but the older models of Roku had some weird terrible channels to find.

Not a single mention of "a comprehensive history of Christian Weston Chandler." For shame on you people.

That documentary that was based on that Change The Channel document is extremely cringey when you look at how much it's failed since 2018.

Most of them ended up bitter petty losers who are struggling for views.
