YouTube on Wednesday announced a new tool that will allow advertisers to use Google’s Gemini AI model to target ads to viewers when they are most engaged with a video.

The artificial intelligence feature, called “Peak Points,” identifies times when videos receive elevated levels of viewer attention and packages ads to be placed after those moments. Peak Points has the potential to enable more impressions and a higher click-through rate on YouTube, a primary metric that determines how creators earn money on the video platform.

YouTube said the AI model is trained by analyzing video elements such as frames and transcripts. Peak Points is currently in a pilot program and will be rolling out over the rest of the year.

The video service announced Peak Points at its YouTube Brandcast event in New York. Besides Peak Points, YouTube made other announcements geared toward advertisers. With Peak Points, Google is taking another step in monetizing AI at a time when many in Silicon Valley are prioritizing products over safety.

Who thinks forcing an ad when the viewer is most engaged is a good idea? Is pissing people off a good advertising strategy? I always assumed companies wanted their brands to have positive associations.
You'll remember it because you're pissed off about it. You might even mention it off hand to a friend because of it. "Man, the other day I can't believe it, YouTube shoved this FaggotLegal ad in my face..."

Marketers, YDHTE.

They don't care about that at all. There are bidding wars and bribes to get "product placement" in prisons. The next Auschwitz's gate will have a Google logo on it.
Only the most autistic retards (libertarians and commies) believe that the present-day corporation is motivated by profit.

Was there any real doubt that machine learning algos would be used to propagandize the plebs even more than they already were by the Shekel State? From State-approved query results to shoving more nigger ads in your face incessantly, it will all be in service to the barmitzfah beast.
My tinfoil is that they're trying to "kill" the internet and make it more balkanized and like the CCP's. They'll make it like how it was before the internet where you could only consume one type of narrative with no other alternative. Or make it borderline unusable with strict digital ID law. Kike Sam Altman is already on it with his world coin project.

Ban advertisements.
There, I fixed the internet.
You also just destroyed the internet. There's only three ways to run a site if you don't just pay for it with your own wealth: ads, donations, or subscription. Very few donate and nobody wants to pay a monthly fee for something if they don't have to. I'm a total hypocrite, I block ads like probably almost everyone here, but it's the only way to fund a site that doesn't directly open your wallet.

Thank god for uBlock Origin still working to block YouTube's ads though. They are over the reasonability line and just ridiculous. It'll block whatever this is too probably Day 1, so.

This place doesnt need ads to run.

Or sell the demographic information about site users to various corporations. We aren't the consumers; we're the product. Subjecting us to constant ads is just another revenue stream for the likes of Google. They'd be just fine without it, but the beancounters and C Suiters see it as a bonus at the end of the year.

Ever go to Youtube with your adblocker off? It's psychotic. I had no idea how bad it had gotten until they broke something with the blocker I used a few months ago and I had to switch it out. If there were no way to block ads there I simply wouldn't use the site because the ads comprehensively infest the user experience, they're brutally obtrusive. I would rather find entertainment watching the drying of paint on the wall and listening to the rattle of manhole covers from the street.
