It certainly gets abused for those reasons. The whole remix video thing YTP spurred out of used to be something I only saw in college as editing excercises in film classes where students worked on actual machines to create these well-timed projects. It used to fascinate me but then this was still analog so it had its limitations unlike what is possible now.

Someone else in this thread already elaborated on that, but you're precisely correct nonetheless. Pretty much anyone with a "position" (Including the writers and janitors) had access to the mod-only forum.

One last tidbit about YC: Apparently you need to acquire 100 posts with your account in order to use the search bar function. I'd assume this also applies to the Offtopic subforum. They're not being deliberately obtuse and paranoid about this at all, amirite? :sighduck:
