I mean, if you're looking for recommendations out of me all you had to do was ask. I like Amelia Watson's content. She has a nice voice, is entertaining to me and sometimes does things that subvert my expectations.

If instead you're looking for me to defend my statement in context to myself, I'm not really here for that. Think what you like if it makes you happy.

My suggested additions:
I added roommate and oshi, the other ones don't seem to be specific enough to /vt/ to need a definition.
@Expressive Waffle Iron do you have any caps from the Amelia "stalker" from /jp/?
I was trying to find the picture of the person who cut themselves, no dice.
It's really unfortunate that it happened solely because of stalker cucks who thought they had a chance.

A very particular /vt/ (and pre-/vt/) trend is taking things that were likely real and then baiting each other so many times that it no longer matters if it was real or not because it was drowned out by baiters baiting baiters.

Were any of these posts genuine? It doesn't matter, because the real ones and the fake ones say the exact same words and do the exact same things, but it's always ironic and any time somebody makes "us" look good it's because they're genuine, and any time somebody makes "us" look bad it's because it's a falseflagger.

I don't think that's so obvious. Are they afraid if their audience knows they are hags they wouldn't continue being the vile simps they are?
Vtubers are in an interesting position in that by trying to hide their real-life identities, they've made it a game for other people to find those identities. And typically if they have any degree of other online presence before that, that identity gets found out.

But, yes, for every one thousand sane and moderate fans out there, there will be one asshole (the type that this thread is focusing on) that will take things too far, and especially in Japan where there is a bit more of a problem with people becoming stalkers and doing shit like this, it can be beneficial for them to not allow people to find out too much about them.

In Japan, yes, there's also a concept of "seiso" in the wider "idol" (pop star) industry where idols are supposed to be pure and virginal and yeah you could totally be her boyfriend if you just buy enough CDs and concert tickets and merchandise. The girls in AKB48 and other idol groups are actually contractually prohibited from dating and get in trouble when paparazzi catches them in the arms of a boy and that sort of shit. I personally find that disgusting and inhumane, but it's a cultural thing, I guess; I also don't eat noodles with sticks. At any rate, Hololive in particular positions its streamers as next-generation idols so they've adopted the idea of seiso to a certain extent, or at least tried to early on in the project. But we outside of Japan don't have this culture, and we expect that all of these girls have their own personal lives where they're straight-up fuckin' dudes who aren't on our level, just like all our actresses and pop stars.

But there's also a role-playing aspect of it. The dog girl is supposed to be a literal dog, you know.

The rise of V-tubers always reminded me of the idol industry and the problems with the rise of the internet and para-social relationships that exploded all over the world in the late 80's solidified in the 90's and continue today.

Jesus these Vtubers are fucking everywhere and infesting their way in like roaches. Just when I thought the weebs couldn't get any worse they do. I feel like most of the people watching Vtubers need some mental help.
No one is forcing you to stay and watch all of them, you neet, go outside.
/vt/ has to be my favourite schizoboard. Unlike /pol/, the vast majority of it's inhabitants are veritable insane pariahs and not bioluminescent congoloids looking to entrap you, yet

What I like about skimming through that board is how much bait shitposts are there compared to genuine discussion.
"[X] is shit because [y]" "no u" ad infintium.
Lurking around I also saw weaboo fags complaining about how they don't like western vtuber whores or something, which is weird because I saw some jap vtubers that are coomer bait and degenerate too 🤔. Console war autism is funny too, I saw "nijiniggers" and "holobronies" thrown around there. Yeah the comparison to the
brony phenomenon is appropriate.

I've noticed an almost Pavlovian hostility to anime and weebs appear in Current Year...

As someone who used to hate anime with a passion in the late 90's and early 2000's, I can safely say it's because people feel threatened when a new, unfamiliar medium enters their traditional sphere of influence. I used to do a lot of creative writing, as I was a hardcore fan of western fantasy & Dungeons and Dragons. Then things like DBZ started taking the west by storm, and I instantly became a hater. I laughed at all the stupid weebs who thought martial arts where people shouted attack names at each other could ever be remotely as cool as a bunch of elves twatting orcs over the heads with their +5 Swords of Indecisiveness. I held that attitude until a science fiction & fantasy critic I respected an awful lot reviewed an anime and was very impressed by it. I watched it myself and found it just as enjoyable. After that I started slowly opening up to anime and manga.

Now I almost exclusively consume it. Not always because it's objectively superior to anything the West produces, but it is almost immune to SJW culture and modern progressive cancer, while nearly every single fucking piece of western fantasy/sci-fi media these days has a mandatory diversity quota. When I can't even read Brandon Sanderson without wondering when a character will announce at random how much they love dick or how the totalitarian evil fascist magical dictatorship the protagonists are fighting sure has some progressive ideas on vertical integration that they should totally look into when all this is over, I don't have much hope left.

Anime & manga authors still remember that their primary duty is to entertain. Not spread a message. Not change the world. Not brainwash children. They're there to E N T E R T A I N. That's why they have such a powerful presence these days. Anti-anime crusaders can rationalize their hatred whatever way they like, but they cannot deny this basic fact; Western media is simply not competitive anymore.

If you, dear reader, want to own the animetards, then do so by actually supporting good entertainment and companies dedicated to producing entertainment instead of propaganda. But if all you do is sit in your man-cave surrounded by old Star Wars figures, mumbling under your breath about how Darth Vader was absolutely the superior antagonist when compared to Vegeta, you're part of the problem.

Good job on the thread, don't have to look to hard to find someone being embarassing or totally insane in relation. There is a lot of oversharing and emotional involvement that people seem to have on what amounts to a product and it's gotten way worse over time.

I have a more grey-ish point of view regarding VTubers.
I even got slapped hard on the wrist for sperging on the original thread a few weeks ago regarding how some are just in it for the money however what intrigues me the most is how this technology works and how it could be used to more scientific purposes.

If you enjoy VTubers, it's perfectly fine, I do enjoy watching some stream archives, but if you spend 4-5 hours everyday watching VTubers streams, keeping up with their calendars to the second, waiting for their streams to start with 1 to 2 hours in advance and literally stalking each one of their moves/tweets...Maybe it's time for you to question yourself.

I've posted on /jp/ and /vt/ since HoloMyth's debut, so I'll mostly post about events I know of since then that have heavily impacted the boards' culture. Most of these have resulted in catastrophic drama shitstorms that have irreparably affected the psyche of the community and even affected the vtubers themselves.

Let's start with the infamous Amegeddon. Amelia Watson is a vtuber from Hololive's HoloMyth, who debuted on September 13, 2020. Ame's fanbase, Teamates, were and continue to be infamous for having a large proportion of Goslings. This term means people who identify with Ryan Gosling's roles in movies such as Lars and the Real Girl, Drive, and Blade Runner 2049. Essentially this means intensely lonely, isolated, delusional people stuck in parasocial relationships.

On October 1, 2020, a little over two weeks after HoloMyth's debut, a poster on the /hlgg/ (Hololive Global) thread on /jp/ claimed to have proof that Amelia Watson had a boyfriend:
Amegeddon Ground Zero

As a holdover from Japanese idol culture, which is adjacent to Hololive's image, having relationships is heavily looked down on because it interferes with the parasocial relationship between the audience and the performer. As such, the Goslings in the thread were disturbed by this revelation and barely had time to cope before the barrage of evidence was posted:

The poster had found the curiouscat.me account of Watson's roommate (previous identity) and found somewhat recent responses indicating she was in a relationship.

Goslings in /hlgg/ did not respond to this well and went on an autistic schizo meltdown for the next several days:
NOTE: There's an equal proportion of shitposting baiters and actually mentally ill people in these threads so every post here has to be taken with a grain of salt and has a 50/50 chance of being serious or a false-flagging joke.

Most replies to this (joking or not) were "Yes.":

Entire threads on the day the proof was posted had to be deleted due to them being unusable because of the unpredecented chimpout derailing all regular discussion. Eventually an anon in the thread concernfagged and allegedly DMed Watson to warn her that /hlgg/ had been sperging about year old Q&A posts she made. She responded by deboonking the rrat and stated they were broken up for a year then promptly deleted everything and posted a taunt to the schizos:

This shitstorm was not widely known outside of 4chan and resulted in the excision of many actual Goslings from /jp/ and subsequently /vt/. Most "Goslings" present today in /vt/ today I'd say are vestigial and mostly doing so ironically or as a nod to /jp/ culture. This incident also gave birth to a new class of troll on the boards, cuckposters, who will latch onto and incessantly spam any evidence of a possible relationship in an attempt to paint their fanbase as cucks, their oshi as whore, and start drama.

This also led to the harassment of her ex's Twitch and Twitter, and Watson deleting all of her roommate's social media accounts. Watson was definitely aware of and likely saw many of the posts in these threads and it probably stressed the hell out of her at the time and made her a lot more cynical about her audience. Many simliar incidents of publicly airing previous/existing relationships have happened since and followed the same framework, but none have come close to the chaos and complete schizo meltdown that was Amegeddon.

The tribalism on /vt/ is absolutely insane. It's a combination of idol culture and waifu war culture, I suppose. One of the biggest boogeymen is Kiara from HoloEN. They'll screencap tweets or clip things she said on stream and interpret them in the worst possible way to make her out to be some kind of egotistical sub-chasing psycho. Another is Nyanners from Vshojo. Before she became a vtuber, she used to make meme videos that referenced otaku and 4chan culture. One day she took down a music video she made about the "pomf what are we gonna do on the bed onii-chan" meme because she changed her mind and felt uncomfortable about sexualizing children. Keep in mind this was 5-6 years ago, and you still have people on /vt/ raging that she "betrayed" her fans and calling her a hypocrite whore.

The whole "seiso" thing is definitely a part of the culture as well. There are a lot of people who will get absolutely infuriated if their oshi even so much as talks to a male. I remember there was a huge shitstorm when Mori Calliope appeared on the otaku podcast Trash Taste with 3 other guys. It's one of the reasons why collabs between female and male vtubers are so rare, at least in Hololive.

i tried using /vt/ in the past but that place is too autistic even for me. they even ban you for doxing and saying "hatful" things about the idols so that's gay.
I know? Yet they allow the constant shit posts about how EN girls should graduate and neck themselves. Daily schizos stating how much they hate the EN girls. It's madness. Get perma-d for talking about someones past life but, daily hate threads are ok? Fucking cunts.

I lost my friend irl over Nyanners. I said I like her streams and find her funny. He went on a huge rant about how he wishes she and her whole family would die painfully. He wants her to get gang raped and necked because he's a lying backstabbing whore and not a pure waifu. Like really? Wtf mate. Its over her taking down the loli video. Like holy shit...there's other uploads of it. She doesn't like it (tbf it was pretty fucked) so fuck off. Just couldn't stop saying he wishes her to die and he considers this a stab in the back. Fucking cringe incel.
