Neither Ralph nor May were raised in decent, clean homes so living in filth, clutter and crap is normal. It will be horrific once a kid is added into the mix.

When I was younger I didn’t understand the kudos given to mothers will tidy houses. I thought what’s the big deal about keeping a tidy home? What I didn’t understand was the kid component. If you manage to keep a spic and span house with kids it means not only do the parents bust their ass but their children are also disciplined and well behaved to help maintain it. It’s why white trash homes with kids are so disgusting. Not only are the parents slobs but you have unruly brats trashing the place because they’ve never been disciplined to eat at a table, take dishes to sinks, wash their hands, or pick up their stuff. Toilet training seems to be the highest level sanitary achievement in such homes, including the parents.
