As someone who posts on /vt/ quite a bit I'm interested in this thread because the board really is a cesspool of gossip, schizos, waifufags, brony-like behavior, and the absolute worst of /v/ style console war faggotry. But there isn't much to really discuss other than pointing at screenshots of threads, especially for outsiders who don't watch vtubers. The way the thread is going it's just going to be arguments about vtubers and why people watch them instead of the fans themselves, which isn't the point. It will also inevitably run up against other plagued topics like anime and lolicon shit. (btw, a ton of vtubers and vtuber fans are super unapologetic lolicons, and that fact is used as a filter to keep out extra pozzed twitter/reddit types.) /vt/ is cringe so there's a good enough reason for this thread to exist, but it also makes perfect sense that it got slapped with an "infected" so quickly.

My favorite part of Vtubers is the fact that it somehow mixed the worst of multiple fanbases together. You get people that are Twitch thot simps, waifufags, and idolfags all mixed into one crazy group. Seeing people get mad at adults for having relationships after donating to them will never not be funny. Seeing waifufags go full schizo from the parasocial relationships they can form with "real" waifus is also entertaining. Hopefully this thread stays on topic and focuses on the insanity in that community instead of devolving into the usual "I've never heard of this but I hate it" post spam that so many community/hobby focused threads seem to turn into.

The issue is not that there is autism to laugh at, it's that nobody who isn't already a fan of vtubers knows anything about them. You already see it in multiple posts here. How many people are going 'man, I know some deep lore shit about this one girl, and here's twenty screenshots to prove it', versus how many people are going 'cartoon women? Never watched 'em, never will. Guys who do are weird though'.

Let's go to a ridiculously extreme negative for a moment; what if somebody made a PG thread on, say, underground pedophile rings? Who exactly would be able to contribute anything to that thread? The answer would be A) people who are pedophiles and would be doxxing themselves by sharing stories of their experiences, or B) people whose experiences amount to 'wow those people exist and are bad i guess', while having zero desire to dig into the sordid depths of the matter in order to extract real content.

Nobody who can contribute anything valid and interesting to this thread is going to do so because they already share that stuff in the existing thread. Meanwhile, the vtuber haters, some of whom have already shown they don't even know said thread exists are never going to have the patience to engage with a medium they hate long enough to dig up any juicy content. People who don't like vtubers won't have watched hours and hours of vtuber content or be trawling through the innermost depths of /vt/ to find quality material to put here.

Already, 95% of the quality salt in this thread is just being cross-posted by regulars from the vtuber thread in Multimedia, and they're too invested in the positive side of the medium to want to constantly highlight random 500-sub indie vtubers sperging about muh trans rites on Twitter.

I find that the vtuber thread moves fast and that I'm not interested in popular vtubers. As you've said, posters on there are big fans of vtubers. Most of what you'll laugh at are people simping at them.

I can say however that random wannabe vtubers have been a plague on many of the communities I've been in. The actual popular people just form a clique and most of these losers are not invited. There are entire discord communities that are based around a cult of personality for an indie vtuber and these vtubers pretend to be your personal friend because you're one of their 20-100 viewers. I've noticed some of these indie vtubers like Snuffy sound like fat women and constantly rely on sex jokes to get attention.

You can find a glut of these people on Twitter doing their "debuts" and even "redebuts". I'm not certain what's going on with this, and when this vtuber craze is going to stop, but there are so many of them that it's difficult to know where to pull the thread. I mean shit like this:

Half reading the thread, half doing other stuff. Has anyone mentioned how American v-tubers manage to be even more annoying than Japanese ones? I find nearly all their voices annoying, as they all try to do that high pitched little girl voice. I know there are one or two that do weird schticks where they have an accent or use text to speech, but even when I know what they're saying it's not that interesting to me.

I know a few diehard weebs that don't find this v-tuber thing interesting either. The only person I do know who loves v-tubers is a lonely tranny who I don't stay in contact with anymore. Does anyone actually know people in person that enjoy v-tubers?

Oh, good. A thread more relevant to my interests since I've lost a lot of my former enthusiasm for vtubers over time.

It's still funny to me how some fans openly talk about lurking either here or on /vt/ just to see if their favorite vtubers are being shittalked about so they can either alog in a hugbox about those who dare say mean things about their oshis, or so they can witch hunt in their own circles – sometimes both.

Here's a belated protip: If your oshi regularly egosearches even the negative reception they get on the outlying areas of the internet, and this gets them down enough to hurt their performance, maybe your oshi shouldn't be wasting their time egosearching if they're going to get upset by the mean things people will inevitably say about them somewhere on the internet. Getting equally upset for your oshi because people say mean things about them on the internet is also top tier lunacy.
