Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

Am I right in thinking that part of the appeal of the Progressive faction is that it's the best choice if you want to gain power quickly and don't have big-time backing? To get a high spot in the Establishment you have to spend 40 years kissing ass, to be influential in the Business faction you need to be a rich executive, but in the Progressives it's possible to come from humble origins and get a leadership position if you can preach a good social justice sermon and have a knack for posting tweets that go viral.
The louder motherfucker usually gets farther ahead than the quiet competent type. You can screech and yell just as much on the Right as on the Left. Difference on the Right is that if you're an unironicaly kkk nazi faggot pedophile, you're toast, but on the Left, you can walk around in blackface taking shits on gay midgets, but if you have friends in the right places, and enough twitter clout, nobody will shit on you.

There was then that article about how a bunch of blue voters in orange were shocked to learn how retarded the gun restrictions are as in Karens being told they cant just do cash and carry.
The great irony of the gun debate is that the blue are always saying "it shouldn't be easier to buy a gun than do X", and then they actually try to buy a gun and are shocked when they can't.

The second great irony of the gun debate is that most violent crimes are done with illegal guns. Hell, even POLITIFACT has to rate this as "mostly true"; think about THAT. So the actual laws won't do much to actually solve the problem.

In the 13 states with the fewest restrictions on gun ownership, 40 percent of inmates illegally obtained the gun they used, Webster said. Only about 13 percent purchased the gun from a store or pawn shop.

In the other 37 states, including New York state, 60 percent of inmates illegally procured the gun they used, Webster said.

Chicago had something like 54 shootings this weekend. Checks out.

They also keep shooting themselves in the foot by creating the exact set of circumstances that make gun ownership more appealing, like importing a ton of criminals, crippling the police, piledriving the economy, and destroying social trust. If they created a socially and ethnically homogenous society that was so safe and high-trust you could leave your doors unlocked then almost nobody would object to a restriction of their rights. Instead they let BLM riots run rampant with a side dish of Antifa arson and an endless supply of black criminality for over and year give us a surprised Pikachu face when this happens:

It'd be unwise to entirely dismiss the religious right. A strong undercurrent of religious views does affect a large swathe of the Republican base. The problem was not their 'grift', it was that the Republicans focused entirely on them to the exclusion of the rest of the party. What must occur is a rebalancing, and acknowledging the issues of the whole party.
What do you think about this? I posit one of the big differences between Democrats and Republicans is that the Democrats bought into their official religion much more than Republicans did.

Even when the Religious Right was really powerful, they weren't allowed much ability to steer the Republicans. In the Reagan and Bush administrations they were mocked behind closed doors, seen as just a source of votes. Under Obama, the Democrats discovered that they could also cultivate a religious movement in the form of wokeism. But while Republicans never seriously tried to Christianize the government many Democrats earnestly believe in restructuring society after the pattern of their "faith."

It could be because woke beliefs don't follow the structure of a traditional religion and thus there's no First Amendment barrier to instituting them in government. I suspect that most of the top Democrats are closet skeptics but many of the rank and file want to transform every institution into a tool to proselytize for this new faith. How do you suppose these attitudes toward state religion will affect the Reps and Dems down the line?

I don't know if it would backfire, but if the right ever wanted to fuck over the left's narrative on gun violence, they could treat every single one of those 54 shootings like a mass shooting is to the left.
  • On the ground reporters including renting out an office for a on the ground base of operations
  • Every time there's a new shooting, every time there's a new confirmed death, interrupt reporting just like it was a national emergency. "BREAKING NEWS OUT OF DEMOCRAT RAN CHICAGO..."
  • Interviews with the police and victim's families
  • Interviews with the local gun clubs re: how no one can defend themselves against these illegal guns because the Populus has been disarmed
  • Interviews with gun store owners out of the area re: how gun ownership lowers crime, how the guns being used are pistols, not "assualt rifles"
  • Daily attempts to get a comment from that fish-faced freakjob mayor they have. (She won't at all, but if she does, sit on the interview and then pretend she's hiding from you when she invariably stops allowing you to talk to her. Do it every single day.)
  • Any attempts by the local stazi to shut down reporting should be used to tie the city government to the violence.
  • Interviews with people who have fled Chicago for red states due to the violence. Bonus if they are gun owners post-move.
  • Call it "The Crisis in Chicago: Day X" or "Chicago Under Siege" with daily updates and fresh new alerts. Remember, each shooting death is another mass shooting-tier event, and they have 50 of them a weekend.
  • Signal boost any protests against violence, protests for gun rights, etc.
A month of this would cause some real change. Unless it backfired and the other networks all went "see? If these evil hatenoun assualt pistols didn't exist, the evil bad men of nondescript skin color couldn't get them! Since it's impossible for men of nondescript skin color to stop their violent urges, the only choice we have is to disarm everyone."

Meanwhile, on /pol/, the feds are freaking the fuck out about their glowie op failing so catastrophically:

Slightly off topic, but it fascinates me just how fragile the Dems power is right now considering they literally control everything except arguably the Supreme Court. They control the Presidency and Congress. They control the media. They conrol Big Tech. They control "science". They control entertainment. All professional sports leagues are more and more woke now. Yet for all their control, the Dems are still fragile, angry, and bitter.

I can't find the statistic, but I read somewhere that the ONLY reason white people commit the most "mass shootings" at all is because gang violence is not included in the data. For the same reason the ADL's "Heat Map" doesn't include any anti-semitic acts of violence.

I love Terry for blessing us with his wisdom. Look at them glow. Just look. It's so pathetic it hurts.

Unfortunately, that would require the media to be on the right's side, so we know that's not happening. They've lost the media a long time ago.

Since we were talking about Beto earlier, can anyone tell me what Texans think of Abbott? I saw people on instagram mocking him and I assumed they were conservatives since they were shitting on Biden too.
From a surface level perspective, my concern is that while Texas is still red for now, the big cities (Houston, Dallas, Austin) and their suburbs are increasingly looking lost, and Abbott and co. don't seem to have a plan to deal with that or the education system turning the next generation of Texans into Democrats. Instead we get Abbott crowing about how Big Tech is now choosing Texas over California (ignoring the ramifications of their influence & their support for the Dems).

Also of course the illegal migration issues + the fact that the feds seem intent on dumping as many 'refugees' on Texas as possible.

I do hope someone can provide me some insight as to whether or not this is really the case and if the Texas GOP have a long-term strategy to fortify their state.

I can't believe the senate parliamentarian did her job, even though she's a democrat appointed to that role. The logic is common sense but that means nothing with liberals these days so I wonder when she will have an accident and be replaced with a tranny and says immigration for reconciliation is ok.
Honestly I just assumed it's just another sign that this admin has no political clout at all and she had no reason to compromise.

And no, I don't think she'll be replaced. Too much fire going on.

Yes. But despite all of that they don't control the people. For all of their top-down exercise of control they have utterly failed to either convert or coerce the masses into blind, total obedience. Now yes, they've managed to accomplish a great deal of domination, but the more they've tightened their grip the more things slip through their fingers.

e: If anyone is curious, all the Evergrande collapse activity is happening on Hong Kong exchanges today because it is currently a holiday in China, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan. Can't speak for the others but China will be on holiday Tuesday as well and then there's another holiday on Friday... lucky for them, they only need to deal with 2 days of stock exchanges shitting the bed this week.

This would be hilariously disruptive and obnoxious and I'm all for it.

Hell, the families would probably appreciate it too. What, they don't get attention when their loved ones are killed because it was by a gang member?

Given how much you talk about how the Democrats look like they're running out of money in general, this doesn't seem like a winning move. Or even a sane one. Whatever sum they spend on Beto, small as they may be, is going to be throwing good money after bad.
They've had empty coffers for a while, and it dates back to 2016. They've had problems getting financed before (some really spectacular cases, even), but it really hit full burn in 2016.

During that time, one stipulation that Hillary's camp had for accepting the nomination was that the DNC would essentially turn its war chest over to Hillary's campaign staff. Considering that the DNC was solidly behind her and several of their highest staff were her supporters, it isn't exactly surprising that the DNC went along with it, but it was still a fucking disaster.

The DNC is no stranger to massive financial mismanagement, but I don't think even their bean-counters expected this shit. Hillary's campaign held onto thousands of useless staffers long after they weren't necessary, often paying six-figure salaries to people who didn't need to show up. They sucked dry the campaign funds reserved for basically every downticket democrat to finance her time, and she outspent Trump that season just in ad buy-ins by a fucking ludicrous degree, grossly eclipsing the money the Angry Orange laid down somewhere like 3-to-1.

While I left the DNC in 2009, a few of my old co-workers remained, and from what they told me, the fuck-ups with people being paid for not showing up were the tip of the proverbial iceberg: try full speaking engagements that never actually happened but got fully paid for and money quietly funneled into legal defense funds for DNC staffers. According to them, the DNC actually ran well into the Red during this shit, and mostly got away with it since everything would be fine if they stopped Trump - something that should sound quite familiar, if you've been following @Gehenna's posts.
