RPGnet Forums

I've got the white box stuff ("0th edition") around somewhere in a storage bin.

Worship me, oh nerdlings.
I have the OD&D "Deluxe Box Set" reprint that they did a few years ago... does that count? (Or more likely, it just makes me a sucker for nostalgia.) 😁

Yep, that was how I busted my RPG cherry. That exact box set.
I remember when almost 70% of the moderation on rpg.net was for legitimate bad behavior. It was still modded poorly, with mod favorites allowed to bait scapegoats and get away scott-free themselves, but the PRINCIPLES that were being enforced at least made sense on a messageboard.

Now it seems like the only moderation they even care about is political alignment policing, and challenges to their own purity.

Im pretty sure I copped a 30 day ban back in 2009 for spelling out where they were headed, too.

Another week, another creator outed as a jerk, another poster banned for criticizing the mods.

How the mighty are falling... John Wick always gave me the impression of a designer who gets high on the smell of his own farts, and he got seriously megalomaniac with his plans when his independent 7th Sea 2E kickstarter made the historical number of more than $1.3 million. Not surprised about narcisstic behaviour and outbursts.

And despite that sky high amount has still not delivered everything and his other one is piling up a bad reputation for him and everyone involved given how little progress has been made on it.

Wick's always been a tool of a person from what I can tell. A glance at the stuff he's written when reviewed by people willing to point out the smug makes that clear. I'm not going to change my stance on him because he's out of favour with rpg.net but I am amused given how determined they were to pander to exactly that sort of demographic newer projects he's been involved with.

The normal, sane people don't get many victories in these dark days. So we often have to make do and crack open a celebratory beer when a pompous, woke shithead like Wick gets caught up in the circular firing squad.

Can't wait for the canned apology and robotic penance.

When I was there, I pointed out to a mod that another mod didn't get punished for doing the same thing I did for getting a warning or something. There was direct evidence to the mod doing it as well.

So they suspended me for a week.

Was this pre 2009 or post 2009?

I always thought it was a little odd that a forum as terrified of litigation as rpg.net would allow posters to do this but I guess they have to Listen and Believe somehow
It's an cult and this guy is just another biweekly sacrifice for the woke crowd. They could have banned quite a few people going by this line of logic; but for some reason (the mods are lazy), some random person bites the dust like clockwork.

Too bad that there are hardly people with money in RPG publishing. It would be interesting if someone US-based went after Skotos for libel, and them doing subsequently some house-cleaning among their forum staff. If they want to treat their platform like a publisher who gets to editorialize and control all content willy-nilly, let them be treated like a publisher.

They'd have to get past § 230, which protects even absolutely asshat moderation. They'd be liable for the statements directly made by their mods, though.

They probably took the rules at face value. But it's just reiterating which side of the fence that the mods are on, at this point.
No they believe that they are "a good guy" so of course nothing will happen to them and if it does it will be just a minor misunderstanding that's easily cleared up...

(No joke, a guy I have bitched about in other threads has repeatedly advocated for moderation and censorship online. I also have him REPEATEDLY bitching about landing in Facebook or Twitter "jail" and he STILL has never ever had a moment of clarity.)
