I've been saying this for years! (go me! back slaps all round)
The internet is littered with bots. Reddit, Facebook, Twitter, Insta, are majority Bots. % varies on how much tinfoil you wear, but i reckon 75% of these platforms are bots.
The whole internet investing based on user numbers is a massive bubble waiting to burst. Investors believe there are 1 billion twitter users (for example) when the real figure is much, much less. But based on 1 billion users, ads should make X amount of return/revenue, so investors chuck more money in to the platform. The platform then buys more bots so show an increase in users and so on and so forth.
Does nobody find it strange that in the history of the WWW, we have seen massive companies come and go in time-spans less than the life of Facebook and Twitter, yet they're still around, without a competitor? (They're propped up by government/NSA and cannot be allowed to fail at this point)
Friendsreunited, Myspace, Tagged, Where are you now? Digg, to name but a few.
