They are the first to get blamed when things go wrong since they aren’t technical talent.Project management is a great gig. All they have to do is make powerpoints, chair meetings and blow sunshine up upper management's asses. With excellent compensation.
That sounds like defense contracting. They hire people with a clearance and a pulse, and they spend their day drinking coffee and burning money. The pay is awful compared to tech though.
A lot of defense contracts deal with cost plus contracts. Meaning an hour rate for labor for contractors plus 10% overhead as a profit margin. That’s where it is lucrative to have a lot of bodies, just make sure the work is done. As a former field ops engineer, there is a lot of downtime but the government needs that person to come in and trouble shoot because training a government employee or uniformed personnel is too hard or costly for them. I didn’t mind the job and I worked nights to avoid day time drama so it was peaceful.Sort of. My friends tell me that very-low 6 figures is essentially poverty level if you don't own your home. You burn so much money on housing and the completely fucked state taxes, increased cost of utilities, and food that your take home isn't different from someone earning half that in a normal part of the country. They deal with it because raw salary still matters for 401(k) match so their retirement accounts are fat.
The local news organ went and had interviews with people with office jobs earning $80,000 in W-2 money living out of RVs because they couldn't find a one bed room apartment for less than 3 grand. My friend told me they hired a guy, paid him to relocate from Virginia, and he quit after two weeks because of the price/availibility of a place to live. No notice, just emailed his boss and left his company laptop on his desk.
I have friends who do/did warm body work in the middle east, and with the FEIC they were earning a little less on paper but nearly all of it was going into their bank accounts. One of them was a manager who explained it to me that the contractors hire people to drink coffee and jack off because they want to show high head counts so they can bid on more/bigger contracts.
In most of the country, $50K is enough to live pretty comfortably.Sort of. My friends tell me that very-low 6 figures is essentially poverty level if you don't own your home. That’s probably why those parts of the country hate seeing New Yorkers and Californians moving in. I feel sorry for the people of Idaho with the influx of young Californians moving in.In most of the country, $50K is enough to live pretty comfortably.
Make no mistake, every part of the country hates New Yorkers and Californians moving in. They drive up housing costs to insane levels and they vote the same way they did back in their shitholes that caused them to leave. We're having that issue here and people are not happy. That’s probably why those parts of the country hate seeing New Yorkers and Californians moving in. Wtf?
Googlians get Google Stock Units (Reserved stock units but with a gay name cause Google) that vest on a 4-5 year schedule depending on when you signed on IIRC.He recently quit Google. I'm not sure what kind of parting of the ways it was. I believe it is actually pretty common for people to leave Google when their options vest, which is five years. He was there from 2016 to 2021, so that fits. Also they seemed to throw him mainly at hopeless projects, maybe in the hopes he could pull some weird voodoo to fix them, and he probably didn't see much of a future there.
The stock options by themselves would probably keep him afloat another 10 years even in Japan if managed wisely, even if he does nothing else.
As a Californian refugee (I do have the honor and distinction of only living there as an adult), I feel the need to point out that not all Californians are the same.Make no mistake, every part of the country hates New Yorkers and Californians moving in. I don't care anymore about "Good" or "Bad" Californians, the whole State should be walled off and anyone trying to leave should be shot. You assholes made your bed, now lie in it.As a Californian refugee (I do have the honor and distinction of only living there as an adult), I feel the need to point out that not all Californians are the same.
You have the right wing and centrists that are fleeing the state and going to Texas, Utah, and Florida because their jobs and companies have left and they are sick of the tax burden.
Then you have what I call the Voluntary Californians. Those are the ones that are leftist and are willingly leaving the state to go live in Colorado, Montana, and Idaho because they want the experience and the mountain real estate is affordable. I had a job offer to move from LA to Denver but turned it down with one of the reasoning being, I didn’t want to move to the place the Californians want to move to.
You can be skeptical of the former but shun the later. Concerning Californians and Texas: Texas is going purple because of the homegrown Texans in the cities have gone lefty. The Californians moving there are by majority supporting conservative candidates, it’s all the native millennials that decided a white man calling himself Beto is a better choice than Ted Cruz.

The only change I see in that room is the sadness and despair has somehow intensified.edit: Come to think of it absolutely nothing in that room has moved in months.

I didn't know about this until you posted it but why the fuck would you buy a FLW place just to tear it down? Jesus christThey really don't for anything outside of narrow world scope - where you see fun examples like a Californian couple buying a Frank Lloyd Wright home in Oregon and planning to tear it down to build a McMansion.
