Plagued Consoomers / Consoomer Culture - Because if it has a recogniseable brand on it, I’d buy it!

Truth. I luckily never had problems, but my brother was still a pizza-faced monster into his early 20s.

He got a prescription for Accutane and his skin became perfectly clear within a month. I couldn't believe how effective that shit is.
Age has little to do with it, I've been on it 2 times and probably going to go on it a third time. It works, but some of us are oozing oil factories even after the 20s. So the effect has a time limit.

It works almost like chemotherapy, in the fact. If Accutane wasn't a modified version of vitamin A, you would get a massive overdose. And even then, Accutane can put a lot of stress on the body. That's why people are fear mongering it, and the myth about Accutane leading to suicide. Which is BS, because it was a rich family which blamed the medicine for their kid committing an hero. Thing is, having acne makes you depressed, which puts you at risk for suicide. Nothing to do with the medicine itself.

A fun fact. Boys do handle Accutane better than girls,

Actually saw one in the autistic things you bought-thread, that commented he had bought Pokemon Oreos. No pics, sadly.

How could the Japanese have been so wrong; it wasn't lonely horny men on their own island that would be their biggest cash cows, it was young women with no impulse control half the world away.

I was a pretty big weeb back in highschool and through college, in that time I managed to accumulate some manga volumes, blurays, a few posters, and small figures. 7-8 years is how long it took me to accumulate a bunch of junk I could probably fit into 1-2 milk crates and drop off at goodwill(not my berserk volumes though, never those, :'( Miura I miss you nigga!)

Based on these girls taste in anime it's pretty obvious they've only started watching in the last 3-4 years. Outside of typically girl centric shows like sailor moon and card captor sakura they all seem to be obsessed with zero 2 which has been commented on already itt, but they also seem to like the girl from the bunny girl show I forget the name of.

I watched it back in college because one of my friends insisted it was worth the watch, it's not a bad show, but its nothing worth buying fucking statues or printouts over. I even drove with my friend 2 hours to go see the movie in theaters, and I still can't figure out why these girls like it. Its basically just a harem anime with a little less ecchi, the plots pretty generic, and the mc is a sarcastic retard. Overall 6/10.

What really clues me in though is the lack of yaoi, seriously back when I was in highschool you almost couldn't find a female weeb that wasn't obsessed with shows like Free!. They'd enjoy other shows as well, but the other shows weren't random niche things they were fairly popular well known titles.

These girls all just seem to be into generic weeb/nerd aesthetic.

Back in my day, it was Gravitation. But you are right that these aren't the typical old weebs. Old Anime weeb girls didn't colour match their gaming setups - most don't even have those. In the 2000s, when I was growing up, to be a weeb meant you just consoomed ANYTHING Japanese.

Postcards of temples, japanese umbrellas, the Lucky Cat things, anything that had anime on it (posters, bags, wallets, keychains), Tokyopop manga, Shonen Jump, OST CDs. None of this shit matched, mind you. It just had ANIMU on it. Then they'd write fanfiction, do fanart, make their own stickers/keychains, then save up for conventions and cosplay for those - but it wasn't cosplaying for pictures. It was like their Christmas day where they could run around screeching and buying those low quality plushes and such while pretending to be Luffy or Kagome or whatever.

They'd come to school with their Naruto headbands and jackets and say SQUEE OH MY KAMI KAWAII*. They were consoomers but ultimately sort of harmless because even within their friend group, they'd share their mangas between themselves and pirate anime and exchange art. All for free. They didn't ever influence anyone to be like them. The autism was contained within their group and you could easily avoid them.

It wasn't like it is now - an aesthetic for girls to indulge in. To my knowledge, the most coveted thing those weebs wanted back when I was in high school was a bamboo tablet because, like all delusional kids, they were going to become a Manga-ka. First DeviantArt, then JAPAN! But now, my god. $130 for that stupid fucking pixel thing? Multiple pastel keyboards? Desk mats, figures (GoodSmile ones, if I remember, are EXPENSIVE), food carts, mugs, Neon Signs, Gaming Skins for their Switch/Switch Lite/Controllers, etc.

Like the weeaboos of old may have spent $20 on a knockoff bag with Fruits Basket characters on it, but none every spent more than $1000 on a neon sign of Usagi from Sailor Moon stuffing her face with ramen. It just feels like the consoom has been ramped up to 11 with social media and these damn tiktok girls glamorizing dropping thousands on a "look". Like, you can get anime and manga scans for free online, yet the New Weeaboo must not only buy all the boxsets/books, but you got to have the figures/funkos too in a glass case and all colour coordinated with your two Switches nearby to justify why you spent $2000 on a pink gaming setup.

It's actual lunacy. :cryblood:

I’m pretty sure this is due to the fact that they make girls take birth control for the entire duration of their Accutane course since it does gnarly things to foetuses. It’s the same reason you’re not allowed to use OTC skincare products with retinol in if you’re pregnant.

I’m still bitter that I had my weeb phase in my early teens back in like 2008-2013 before this shit was cool. A lot of these girls seem like the type that would have bullied me back then for being obsessed with Hetalia and basically wanting to be Haruhi Suzumiya IRL.

If I would take a guess. Boys have more mass and have oilier skin than girls. If there is any interaction with Accutane and birth control. I don't know

I think you would be bullied anyway, wanting to become a fictitious character is out there. Be glad the most sucky part of life is over:)

Yeah I noticed a lot of them had pretty nice drawing tablets in their setups as well, makes me curious as to whether or not they actually use them. To actually contribute to the thread for a change instead of just typing out a wall of text I present to you manga hoarders. I used to want a collection like these, but I could never justify it to myself. With the exception of rereading parts of JoJo part 3 and most of berserk I don't think I've extensively read any physical manga; any manga I've read has been digital.

A common theme among most of them is the fact that they haven't read a good portion of what they have on their shelves. "Oh I'm 5 volumes behind on this manga, on to the the next one! Oh I'm 3 volumes behind on this manga, on to the next one!" I don't know how they juggle so many storylines, it would be a bit more understandable if they were reading weekly serializations. If manga wasn't so easily and widely available online I could see a justification for owning a large collection like those depicted above, but it is, so owning 700 volumes of manga makes little practical sense. I suppose the one argument I could stomach for massive collections like these are that they prefer the book in their hands vs digital, I personally prefer actual books in my hand to ebooks, but manga are mostly pictures so I don't have the same issues.

I’m still bitter that I had my weeb phase in my early teens back in like 2008-2013 before this shit was cool. A lot of these girls seem like the type that would have bullied me back then for being obsessed with Hetalia and basically wanting to be Haruhi Suzumiya IRL.
I fucking hated Haruhi, specifically season 2; the time loop bullshit literally made me want to kms, and to this day I've never finished the show or bothered with the movie.

What I wonder about weebs, is that were they also in Japanese cars, too, like the hardcore JDM fanboys, or are those their own community?

And given how much money being burned on these things, it makes me wonder why some of those people don't make some of the stuff on their own, i.e. creating something like a stylized picture, or a plush, of their favorite anime character, to hang on their wall/display on their shelf..

No matter the subject, it all circles back to the same thing: people who are into something because it interests them/because they genuinely like it, and people who are “into” something to project a certain image.

We shall keep these memories alive. It's important the younger generations know Anime Club is a documentary.

Those were their own guys, mainly because the barrier to entry was so high. Car stuff was in the "car" category.

In late 90s-Early 2000s the did. It wasn't uncommon at all to see the weird girls at school with homemade plushies of their favorite character and shit like that.

Anyone who acts like they need to get the Xbox Series and PS5 they have 4 exclusives worth a damn the rest are multi gen games that run just fine on last gen. This even more funnier given the low chances of getting one thanks to the awful management of just about everyone involved and chip shortages that were evident since June of last year. Estimates are that next gen will be plentiful in less than 2 years so until then more multi plats devs and publishers are angry especially Sony. Then again at this point Gayming is a consoomerist hobby since most games made now are average at best outside of the Yakuza team.

They do exist still but given how accepted anime is and Jap stuff in general in the last few years. Weeb culture in the old days was just fans gone wild with their love nowadays its a fad.
