Should the title be re-worded to expand the scope of the thread?

Southeast USA here: Haven't noticed anything like others have shown: empty shelves, etc. That may be because I live in a rail/distribution/manufacturing hub. I /have/ noticed significant issues with staffing. My local Sonic doesn't staff personnel for the little stalls, pretty much any service industry is short staffed. A buddy of mine works for a auto industry logistics contractor. The chip issue affected them greatly, to the point where their line was completely shut down for several weeks. They recently got a shipment of chips from Mexico (I think) which allows them to go back online for a few more weeks.

Should be easy to flash/mess with ECUs no? No need to fuck around at the sensor level. It's very likely the DEF isn't wired into the ignition system but it's the ECU saying no when told to start if it doesn't get the "right" sensor responses.
You could just rip the emissions equipment off and flash the ECU, but it's slower than you think. Probably 5 to 10 minutes per module you need to flash. IDK about semi-trailers, but on a passenger car there are no less than 5. You'd also want to modify engine and turbo to get it into a more efficient setup for non-emissions exhaust, but that can wait.

Which trades would you recommend?

Pipefitting, Welding, Plumbing, Electrical, Equipment Mechanic...really can't go wrong with any of the skilled "construction" jobs.
Construction is only growing, nobody is entering these professions, and a butt ton of boomers are about to leave them.

Obviously trucking is big right now, not sure for how long given the rapid advancements in automation.

Automation will never replace truck driving, because the best automation can manage is to keep the truck on the road and brake for obstacles. You'd need Commander Data level automation to do all the *real* truck work. It's cheaper to hire a pajeet.

But I clicked "agree" because all that's needed to devastate the industry is more truckers. Unlike plumbing, welding, electrician-ing, or what have you, there's really nothing stopping any able-bodied person driving besides bureaucratic bullshit. It doesn't take a master craftsman or a STEMmy sort to kick boxes or tarp lumber. If the Gordian knot of red tape is ever cut, trucker incomes will crash.

Another reason you will NEVER see self-driving trucks take over-- personal injury and wrongful death lawyers. EDIT: That is to say, in a wreck involving an automated truck, there's no driver to scapegoat, and when the only justification the company can manage for "why was no one in the cab for safety," is "profit," they will be fucked six ways from Sunday.

I saw a particularly retarded youtube video predicting that "one day soon" you'd see fleets of self-driving trucks with one operator in the front truck. A) Congratulations on re-inventing the locomotive, but dumber and B) nobody who DOESN'T have a rail line ever needs ten trucks a day coming from the same place.

No shop or trucking company is going to defeat the an emissions system on their trucks. The EPA would fuck them massively. They have handed out multi million dollar fines to companies that sold ECU flash controllers. Spartan Diesel comes to mind with their $4 million dollar fine. Another one I cant remember the name of got hit $7Million.
EPA would let people starve before they issued an emergency order suspending an emissions law.

A desperate owner operator might do it and keep his mouth shut to get his own truck to get back on the road. But thats a lot different then a trucking company full of employees who might drop a dime to the EPA.

I propose the crisis be called the mega mega fucky-wucky oopsie-woopsie my bad.

And the politicians should have to say that shit and have it forever pinned on them for having caused it and the resulting sigma erasure boogaloo. I'm enraged at how irresponsible this vax mandate is, considering the delicate state of the economy, and my words are coming out gibberish

Just posted about the shit show going on at the ports and how it will everything worse.

Now exactly in the industry by a few guys that I shoot with work to the Port of Lewiston in Idaho. They already have a few people looking to expand in that area.

P.S. If you have not gotten your Christmas present, get them now.

I archived the port information you found (feel free to borrow the archive links if you want) and credited you in the OP.

Labor shortages everywhere across all age groups....Almost like the jab is killing everyone

Nah

Karl denninger found 1.5 million missing workers under 40 in official BLS statistics and that number is accelerating
Lmao, yea, it's the vax, not the absurd unemployment, eviction moratorium, covid absences, and mass job loss at the start of the covid scare.

Fucking retard.

Uk has reduced the requirements and training periods for new HGV drivers, with some companies offering training as part of the package. HGV drivers are now being paid £55k~ a year, roughly $100k.

With all of those containers sat in california, that will have a knock-on effect of containers getting back, to be filled up again. But what of the goods inside? It's OK saying your plastic shit will be 6 weeks late, but any perishables will be binned, right?

I'll believe an AI can drive a car once an AI can solve a truck/plane/bus full of nuns captcha.
If I'm not mistaken, airplanes with modern avionics can essentially fly their route from wheels up to a few minutes before wheels down. They however can't adjust to changing weather and other unpredictable events that are really common over the Rockies and near the Gulf.

I live in Philadelphia. Wawa stores have signs up saying that due to supply chain issues their store brand drinks may be out of stock. They ain't kiddin' either. Many brands of protein bars and drinks as well as the healthier snacks are barely being restocked. Giant supermarket has quite a few things that aren't restocked, including many gluten free products and Cape Cod brand chips. They also have a shortage of energy drinks, Coke with coffee (no one has the sugar free one that seems to sell out first all the time). Sugar free Starbucks Triple Shot is also sold out everywhere I look save for Target in rare occasion.

Walgreens has almost no drinks and they didn't get half their Halloween decorations and some of the single serve candy. They've looked like an apocalypse store for months. I don't know if every Walgreens is like this. But the one I went to is. They also had their computer system damaged by Ida and prescription processing weas slow and when I called to refill the automatic message was glitchy and contained parts of another message. It was weird. An employee also told me that the people they hire don't show up. I don't know if this issue is widespread in stores. But if people got too comfy on unemployment it may be the case.

Walgreens is also short on cold and allergy medicine, Ensure, food and beverage thickener and other products for people who have trouble eating normally. They have very few cases of water, bottles of juice and milk. No Talenti Gelato or Ben & Jerry's has been restocked in a long time.

There's almost no shampoo, cleaning products, lotion or candles.

An interesting thing though, all the bodegas are stocked. They may not have the same variety but they never seem to run out of essentials like paper and cleaning products, canned goods, dairy and drinks. It was the same during the height of the pandemic.

I have had the same issues. Quite frustrating.
My chest deep freeze is the best thing I ever got. It kept me eating well during the height of covid panic buying. The thanksgiven turkey and christmas roasts are already safely in there.
