After a quick google it looks like top surgery costs $5k-$10k, the same price as breast implants. I’ve never seen a FtM tranny that didn’t have horrific and obvious scarring and awkward results, and I’ve seen plenty of decent boob jobs.

I'll never understand why this shit is considered acceptable and by ''shit'' I mean begging for money to have your tits chopped off (or to get your dick removed, whatever the fuck you want) when begging for any other kind of cosmetic work would 100% not fly online and it IS cosmetic work. Feeling like your body doesn't match who you are isn't just something trans folk deal with but they are the only ones who are coddled and catered to. A woman wanting to fix her dodgy tits that have fucked her mental health won't be handed free money for surgery, this bellend shouldn't expect any different.

I read a post on tumblr (I know) where it became obvious to me that an awful lot of younger people do not realize that plastic surgery is a thing. They think that "top surgery" is some new and trans-exclusive procedure.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but

WOMEN HAVE BEEN GETTING BREAST REDUCTIONS AND IMPLANTS FOR DECADES!

That's why insurance doesn't want to cover it, it's considered COSMETIC surgery most of the time. Doctors and insurance agents aren't bigoted against trans folk, it's just not life-threatening. Also, you don't always have to go to therapy for years and years to get cosmetic surgery. Just...pay for it.

I weep for the future of humanity.

yeah but big boobs can really cause back pain (my issue now) and so some insurances will indeed cover it. And they will cover breast reconstruction due to cancer too. But top surgery otherwise is indeed cosmetic.

Most insurance companies (in the U.S.) and most countries with universal health care will cover medically necessary cosmetic surgeries. Breast augmentations and reduction mammoplasties are covered when an underlying medical condition would be resolved from the surgery. I would also include bilateral mammoplasty when a patient is at a high risk of developing breast cancer.
