If you look back through history's biggest mistakes and manmade disasters, the singular feature that is always prominant is group think. Inclusivity, diversity, allyship etc are all about generating and enforcing groupthink in its most extreme form and we are being set up for disaster.

What is interesting about group think in organisations is that the best proxy measure for teams most prone to it is something weve been aggressively collecting stats on for years; wellbeing.

We frame wellbeing and measure it in a way that makes it a perfect early warning sign. A team that one year was unhappy and the next very happy has probably had staff who challange removed and replaced by more agreeable ones.

When addressing unhappiness, managers will focus on addressing behaviour that is insufficiently collaborative.

Its related to the bizarre phenomenon where organisations believe that staff happiness is a prerequisite for its success, so they stop trying to be the best at their job, and focus on the needs of staff.

I think that staff happiness is born from organisational success, and that actually its not for employers to take responsibility for solving the complexities of its staffs emotional wellbeing.

I remember reading this is how Japan ended up in WW2 the way they did. Anybody in power who was against the hardline military were steadily pushed out, until the Emperor and his advisors were all convinced that it was Japan's right to control the Pacific and pick a fight with America. So strong was the group think, several generals were ready to kill the divine Emperor rather than surrender after getting nuked in the face, twice.

Dunno if we'll ever know for sure, but I suspect something similar happened with Bush 2's Iraq war. Less that they lied and more that group think convinced them it was a good idea.
