The Australian totalitarian megathread - She won't be right mate.

Need one of the unions to crack and join the side of the protestors. For all ehir many flaws they bring a lot of organisational know-how in terms of protests, and having a union attached will make it a lot harder for the police to treat them like outlaws.

In NSW new the treasurer/deputy premier has said we should open up at 80% for both vaxx and unvaxxed. Suspect this is a mixture of
1. the passport app being delayed and anyone reasonable would need to allow for the possibility that Services NSW will be too incompetent to actually deliver it, so best to avoid the embarrassment and drop the idea
2. There are a couple of federal laws that make vaccine discrimination extremely tricky, being the immunisation register act that grants you the right to withhold your vaccination status from anyone, and the anti-discrimination act that makes it illegal to discriminate for amongst other things the fear of future infection (legacy from the AIDS experience, thank you poofs). Federal law overrides state law where they disagree according to Aus constitution.
3. Gladys is on her way out it is strongly rumoured due to some nasty outstanding questions around her deeply corrupt ex boyfriend. The treasurer might be looking to differentiate himself to pressure her into going and hurry up the process.

Victorians still fucked and without hope as always.

It won't just be the boot of the goverment, but also the public. Almost everybody I know in the real world are in favour of what's going on seemingly because they believe if they keep going along with the plan, things will return to normal soon. I keep my mouth shut and agree, and claim that I'm vaxxed as there is nothing to gain by getting into arguments with people who have been good friends and family up until recently.

When things "open up", the virus is going to spread more, and our federal and state goverments will blame the unvaccinated for the clogging of hospital beds, which will give carte blanche to the public to blame the unvaxxed for anything and everything going wrong. Gladys has been implying once we reach 80% double vaxxed, life will go back to normal, which it obviously won't, and those people are going to be very angry and looking for someone to blame for not getting what they were promised.
This take gels with what I'm seeing too. A few hold outs getting painted as crazies, a few good 'uns probably going to just take it up the arse and get the jab to keep their jobs and see their family, most just wanting everyone to dO tHe RiGhT tHiNg because daddy Dan says we might be able to have a treatie.

Much brewing anger and resentment tho, you love to see it.

Australian plan to bring back foreign students likely to exclude those given Chinese vaccines

A pilot programme to allow some international students to return to Australia's most populous state is likely to exclude Chinese nationals due to rules surrounding vaccination status.

The phased plan was approved by the federal government and the first flight carrying some 500 fully vaccinated international students will arrive in New South Wales by the end of the year, the state government said.

Students from China who have taken their nation's vaccine are likely to be ineligible to participate, because the shots are not recognised by Australia's Therapeutic Goods Administration.

"They will need to be double vaccinated with a vaccine that our federal authorities deemed to be adequate and effective, and that is just the way it is," Premier Gladys Berejiklian told reporters.

Those wanting to participate in future need to "find access to a vaccine that is regarded as effective by our authorities".

"We don't want additional risk put into our system", she added.

International education was worth A$14.6 billion (S$14.4 billion) to New South Wales in 2019, the state government said.

Macquarie University, the University of Newcastle, University of Sydney, University of New South Wales and University of Technology Sydney are among the varsities that will participate in the pilot plan. More than 57,000 students are estimated to be overseas, according to the state government.

Vaccines made by Beijing-based Sinovac and state-owned Sinopharm are among the most used in China, and have efficacy rates ranging from around 50 per cent to 80 per cent in preventing symptomatic Covid-19.

A vaccine developed by Sichuan Clover Biopharmaceuticals was found to prevent 79 per cent of Covid-19 cases caused by the Delta strain in late-stage trials.

Sinovac and Sinopharm have provided little conclusive data on the effectiveness of their shots against the Delta variant, which is more infectious than the virus' original strain and appears to have dimmed the protection given by existing vaccines.

New South Wales state capital Sydney has been at the epicentre of a Delta outbreak that has forced Australia's largest city into lockdown for the past 90 days and spread to Melbourne and other east coast areas.

On Friday (Sept 24), New South Wales reported 1,043 new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours, with 11 deaths. Victoria, Australia's second-most populous state, reported 733 new cases and one death.

The universities have deep pockets and deep ties to government. Of course they'd get to break the rules.
Remember, laws mean nothing, they exist only to provide justification. A man who has made friends of the parliament, of the judiciary and of the enforcers will never be punished no matter how serious his crime. A man who has made enemies of these three will find himself guilty no matter how innocent he truly is.

It was the same with the fucking Football teams. And the media. Byron Bay got locked down again because film crews were getting free passes to leave Sydney and one of their people brought COVID out of that shithole with them. Meanwhile the common man slowly falls into alcoholism, depression and bitter anger because the jackboots won't let him out of his home.

Not a whole lot of good new footage kicking around right now, but I did find a few interesting things.

First up is a small whitepill -- there may be a schism developing within the police over the vax mandates and enforcement. One cop, Alexander Cooney, has quit his job and is now urging other cops to refuse to enforce.

Next is a little more context on the video I posted before of the guy getting absolutely mauled by a pack of riot cops, including getting clubbed with the butt of a rifle. It's not much, but I found a cut that shows the few seconds before they down him, and you can see he really seemed to be doing nothing at all to attract their ire. Also has an origin watermark - Jason Edwards, at the Herald Sun.

A treat for tactinerds -- a short clip of a riot cop strutting around with a tear gas launcher.

According to Channel 9, administrators are considering making school suck even more for kids in the Victoria school system. No field trips, assemblies, performances, or other fun allowed, if a new proposal is adopted.

To be fair, BLM protests were before the Delta variant reached here, weren't they?

True, it was more the contrast in how the two protest groups were reacted to in the contest of lockdowns that caught my eye -- BLM did then and keeps getting a pass, while pretty much anything else just about anywhere gets condemned as plague rat super spreaders. The difference has been a running joke in the USA for the last year.

Ironically, Avi Yemini just posted a clip today with a number of interviews with protesters, and ended up bumping into a BLM chick who rees about the tradies spreading COVID.

Avi Yemin
Something's always rubbed me the wrong way about this guy. He's an Israeli-Australian, who seems to put his Israeli roots first, who works for the Rebel News, a provocative Canadian news organization run by Ezra Levant, a name you couldn't make more jewish if it was big-nose shekelsteinberg. And yet he's at the center of these protests to spread the message about what's happening. Is it too much of a coincidence that I'm noticing he's the only media to end up interviewing guys in the middle of a march while MSN are pelted with rocks and being run away?

You're probably not wrong, but the mainstream isn't budging on the "cops are heroes, protesters are racist evil covid bombs" narrative so we're not spoilt for choice. Also the police have fucked with him before so I think it's personal.
I wouldn't trust him to report on anything else though.

I do wonder if the Redditors that are on certain subreddits like the HermanCainAward one, are praising this cop for delivering punishment to this woman for not wearing a mask. And given that it's a white woman, and not either a minority (either Black, Trans, Muslim, or any combination of the three or all of the above), would they be praising this cop even more?

He's definitely got some recent beefs with the cops, all questions about him and his employers aside (any news site that writes headlines with SUDDEN ALLCAPS interspersed always stinks of BoomerGrift to me). He's got a lawsuit working its way through the Aus court system now over some spats with the police:

Cops also grabbed one of his bodyguards this July.

I’ve felt the same way about Avi. I’m not sure if he seems like a grifter or he just rubs me the wrong way. His man-on-ground report content is interesting but his rants put me off.

The reason he doesn’t get anything thrown at him is probably because he’s not maligning the protestors. Moreover, wasn’t it only ever a few people throwing shit at the Channel 7 or 9 fellow last Tuesday? Is it really widespread?
