Plagued Consoomers / Consoomer Culture - Because if it has a recogniseable brand on it, I’d buy it!

Does any consoomer sometimes watch some European arthouse films or read a real philosophy book? Or do they all get their centre-liberal views from comicbooks?
I see it in the specific sub-category of Criterion consoomers (usually mono collectors that don't really mingle with the other labels), typically the kind that congregate on reddit to post their samey looking collections of Kurosawa/Bergman/Lynch/Tarkovsky/etc. for karma. They're really focused on what their collection says about them to other people, but after seeing almost identical collections for the 100th time all the posturing blurs together. Also the kind to get pissy about a film not being 'worthy' of a Criterion release or how their favorite films needs a Criterion release to somehow confirm their good tastes.

I still say "The Big Green" and "Air Bud" got snubbed and are probably the most important sports film made last century for they encapsulate the very timeless essence of modern sports.

No, but please continue to tout the glories of "Space Jam" as you glaze over the fact that it was heavily tied to multiple child molesters.

btw, The PokemonxOreo cookies are already hitting Ebay. How about that 75$ Mew

They're Oreos. You eat them. If you like the packaging, maybe keep that. I doubt it's a masterpiece like Mama Zuma's Revenge, though.

People have kept 35 year old boxes of Nintendo cereal with it's contents intact. So there's precedent, for preservation people will either freeze them or dip them in a plastic glaze.

Just the mental image of them watching Come and See and actually reading The Illiad would make me rate Optimistic™.

Instead, they just watch the Marvel Avengers movies, while lauding Cuties as a work of art.

Anytime someone says diamonds, I think of this and the wonderful schadenfreude it produces.

Anyways, I really hate this ideal around Engagement rings and how they have to be in your face and PURE DIAMOND and shit. Even when you're rich it just seems like a pointless consooming excess. Diamonds and jewels are beautiful, especially when you get the right craftsman who can do complicated cuts on them. But to flash off to everyone on earth in all your ugly selfies that your ring is the size of a chicken turd is the height of low-class and tacky.

It also follows this pattern that women are materialistic harpies and your "man" ain't worth shit unless he gets you some ring with diamonds the size of Texas on it. Like, fuck off. You should be happy your fiancée can even afford a fucking ring and be grateful to even get one. Gloating how you need to drain his wallet is gross.

Get that ice or else no dice.

The only thing John finds wrong about this are the lack of non-binary funko pops. I'm done. They begged us to add women to the army, now they want genderspecials.
John was taking the piss, I believe.

Weddings in total had been perverted into consumer extravaganza a long time ago. Consume a dress that will be worn only once. Consume a cake with ridiculous amounts of fondant. Consume a gaudy oversized ring. Take a loan to rent a restaurant for a day and to fund a honeymoon trip. Start married life with negative funds and pray there will be no divorce in a few years that will make it all look like a giant waste of money.

Didn't they have an extremely brief re-run of this cereal like a decade or 2 ago, but under a different company? Could be a false memory but I'm absolutely sure something like that happened. Limited promo food has always been one of the really fucking strange things people keep ahold of, the consoomer corruption aspect of it in recent years thats led to it being scalped and preorder-able is a special hell. Before that time, the most you'd get is either hardcore collectors or people who eat expired food on video for fun buying the unused boxes off people.

I'd argue that quite a few artfags are consoomers too. It's just their collection are exotic Artificial Eye special edition Blu-Rays or books they'll never read.
Someone gotta make blu ray remasters of obscure old films be worthwhile to release by buying them. Lord knows it ain't me, i love me some blu rays of old movies but always pirate that stuff.

Not if your religion is brand loyalty. Branded items are automatically made sacred and need to be treated with outmost reverence.

Saberspark is hit or miss, but this video decently covers the topic. Gatcha discussion starts around the 27 minute mark.
I grew up with vidya so is kinda deppresing that i no longer see it as a exciting new medium but distopian skinner boxes , i am pretty done with that industry and hope it crashes.

Vidya enthusiasts are just as disappointed as you are in the uprising of skinner box gacha crap, and mobile gaming completely squandered all of its potential, thanks to being run by companies that don’t give a shit about games, and didn’t moderate their storefronts in any meaningful ways. Mobile platforms are as dystopian as they come, and they set terrible precedents for software ownership going forward, with no guarantee that you’ll be able to access anything you paid for, or even be able to download an older version of something in case an update messes it up.

I feel like we're headed for a 1983-4 style video game crash, and in some ways it's the same reason - a proliferation of shit. I am tired of mobile game shovelware, not just on mobile but also on Nintendo's store and steam.

1984 videogame crash was a fucking meme.

It affected zero of PC game development because Atari was nowhere near that sector.

The Sinclair ZX Spectrum was alive in well in Europe before the NES even came to market, continued to have games released for it all throughout the NES's lifespan (the NES never really took root there at all) and the ZX Spectrum lasted until 1993.

So you have multiple avenues that existed for games already that were not touched by Atari's gay bullshit at all. And if the NES was entirely absent you would have just gotten games from another source. You would either be importing shit from the UK to game or you would be gaming on a PC.

At the rate that consoomerism in terms of the lunatic excesses, does it make people wish that their governments would switch to Socialism or Communism instead, to kill off consoomerism once and for all? Or would even that not stop it? I can't really see how consoomers in Venezuela or North Korea would be a thing.
