While the vast majority of Christians believe that God the Father and God the Son are separate, there is a sect of Pentecostals who believe God the Father, God the Son, and the Holy Spirit are really just different manifestations of the same being.

Are there crazy muslims who say they are mohammed reborn, or hindus who claim to be Rama?

Or is there something about christianity that interacts with this sort of mental illness just right?

Funny. I was raised Protestant and the belief that all three are the same was never questioned. I mean, GOD the Father and GOD the Son. Even in the names and shit. Separate, sure, but still different aspects of the same whole. Like the Triforce.

It is a pretty uniquely Christian phenomenon. Muhammed (Piss and Shit be upon Him) never claimed to be as super-special as Jesus is as a figure in Christianity. A god made flesh, destined to both bring salvation and annihilation of the entire human species in a most spectacular fashion - there’s just something that strokes the mentally-ill mind just right about those ideas.

Honestly, people saying he sounds completely deranged and insanity defense is in the bag are kinda over-selling it. He doesn't sound any more insane to me, but maybe that's just because I've worked at a new age book store. Everyone who comes in asking about crystal healing or energy vampires sounds like that. It's the matter-of-fact cadence of someone who believes they have achieved supreme enlightenment by playing with novelty tarot cards.

A lot of these delusions about being a God(dess), etc were already present and have been for a while. It seems more likely he attended some sort of religious service and was exposed to some new ideas he decided to tack on to his pre-established mythos. Remember how deeply he lives in the world of make believe. Jesus is just another character from a story that he can claim ownership of and rewrite to his liking, not a real or sacred historical figure or anything. I would take it equally as serious as saying he's Sonichu.

I'm not saying he's NOT bonkers, just not more crazy than he already was; which is a very culpable level.

Well, yes and no I suppose: No as in I’m sure this is just the latest mutation of his already existing delusion of godhood, yes as in said already existing delusion of godhood came about from outside influence originally.
