I think the biggest clear indicator to me that conservative pundits were grifters were with how some of the female pundits (like Ann Coulter) kept bitching about how the 19th amendment needs to be repealed back in 2016.

If there's anything Milo understood, it's that modern conservatism is all about gimmicks and playing to the gallery. Milo's gimmick was that he was flamboyantly gay, but there was no shortage of others to step up and occupy a similar sort of niche once he fell from grace: all they had to do was tick a novel set of diversity checkboxes, parrot the same lines, and then watch the money roll in as their careers on the right-wing griftosphere circuit were practically assured.
