Word coming down from DC to my employer is that the infrastructure bill is super dead, and they plan to try to propose a chopped down version of the chopped down version. Not sure if it'll be announced publically if it fails to get at least Sinema -or- Manchin on board though to pass it alongside the reconciliation bill.

@Gehenna I've been wondering, at what point is lack of faith in government institutions generally, and the fairness of elections a concern behind the scenes? Even if its only Republicans that have misgivings about the fairness of elections, at what point does that lack of faith begin to wear down the system? I don't even mean fraud that can be proven, but just a general sense among the population that the game is rigged. I also wonder how our international allies view it from behind the scenes, but I don't think that would be your area of expertise.

My friend, my guy, my buddy-boy, the "general public" are so gullible when it comes to the government Joe Biden and Nancy Polosi could show up at their homes, and proceed to gang bang them on their front lawn and they will still probably vote for them. Sure they will squeeze their fist and swear "this time will be different, this time I will vote differently". No to the latter, the 1.5 trillion packages has a little, mostly paying off the absolutely most crucial creditors to the Dems. God knows what's in the mince meat version since it means not paying back the creditors unless they actually strip out every last bit of actual infrastructure money.

The 3.5 thing is the full-throated infrastructure bill that is just a giant mountain of pork. the 1.5 trillion thing is a cutdown version of the infrastructure bill that Manchin proposed as a compromise. It was rejected. Both are the Infrastructure bill.

the old democrat machine survived for a good while. I know for a fact that the good old boy schemes lasted until the 2000's in my part of the state. we still have lingering ripples of that now. everyone here is a registered democrat because that was what they told us to register as in school. "register as what your parents are" for everyone in this part of the state that means democrat. all the way back to the 1850s. Trump shook that up though. lots here changed their registration.
