The Last of Us Franchise - Because it's apparently a franchise now. This thread has been double-DMCA’d by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Finally got around to buying this game, been forever since I'd played the first one and didn't read reviews or anything so going in blind.

Graphics and physics are amazing, and loved the story. As with every naughty dog game I've played in the HD era, the cut scenes and voice acting, just phenomenal.

F for Joel though, that was brutal, but also that was a super ballsy move and a really creative way to introduce Abby, who ended up being an awesome character that I absolutely loved. Her revenge arc was perfect and fit the tone and theme of this series so well. Seriously though, that was brave as fuck of them with that twist, but it was awesome.

All in all a super great game that I had a ton of fun playing and was definitely worth the wait.
You serious?
I can’t tell, please tell me if you are.

Regardless of if this is serious or not, Naughty Dog said the game was not made to be “fun”, so you go back and experience the game the way Drukman insists you experience it as.

to each their own i suppose
i still think the game was like a 6/10 personally.
I agree with ashton summers-i mean @Deadwaste here tbh...

Idk im just burnt out on zombie apocalypse shit. The game was way overhyped imo. Like EVERYONE was praising it up and down. And the fraud at the game awards and druckmann himself taint the series as a whole.

On a technical level, the game is good.
But besides this it’s all just generic and on several points absolutely retarded.
The first game was definitely impressive for a PS3 game. And while the story itself wasn’t groundbreaking, it was the characters and conflict that made such a personal impact to so many people.
Last Of Us 2 falls on its face with purposefully adding shock value to drive the plot.

Please, do explain how Abby is a good character when she basically shows she gives zero fucks about the fact literally everybody around her except Short Mulan fucking dies because of her actions. And also would have absolutely murdered a pregnant girl for no fucking reason if Short Mulan hadn't stopped her.

This is on top of the complete bullshit that is Abby having an impossible physique that requires an entire fitness industry to attain and also somehow survive getting strung up on a cross for a week, when JESUS CHRIST is kind of famous for being killed this way.

Its also not creative, because you've clearly forgotten that Joel has to be extremely OOC in order for his death to even happen the way it does. I didn't even play these stupid fucking games and I know this.

Come back to the story of TLOU2 in six months, maybe a year, and see how it just falls apart if you look at it from basically any angle other than head-on. Also, don't expect multiplayer, Naughty Dog keeps saying its happening, but we're how long past launch and they haven't bothered implementing the most popular aspect of the original game? Shows how much ND gives a shit about you, the player, these days.

TLOU2 is a well programmed game that doesn't have new stuff in comparism to it's predecssor, the story makes no sense, the dialogue isn't always in line with the setting (I mean seriously complaining about being called a dyke in an apocalyptic setting) and the characters have next to no development (Abbyzilla has a bit but it's negligble). Plus the fact that ND still hasn't released the Multiplayer while Kickass has continously expanded their Ghost of Tsushima. Yeah Cuckmann can certainly enjoy his prizes he will never get one again. That's why it's a 6/10 at best. Or in other words The last Jedi of video games

Literally just keep feeding the beast until Factions comes out and you wind up with a hardened base of series defenders and it leads in as a prequel to TLOU3 where they make more story asspulls to own the haters.

Lol calm down
I asked you a question. I take it you don't intend to answer?

What's funny is that there isn't even a way to get a satisfactory ending with TLOU3 because there simply isn't any more story to tell with any of the characters. Ellie's story is done, TLOU2 was literally her revenge plot and she LET THE DUMB BITCH LIVE and still got the bad ending. Abby was purpose-built to be obsessed with Joel and now that not only he but literally everybody except Short Mulan are dead...Abby simply has no character, as she and Short Mulan were supposed to be the 'woke' replacements for Joel and Ellie but failed oh so miserably to catch any worthwhile praise that they couldn't possibly carry a title on their own.

Isn't Abby dead? By biting off Ellie's finger and consuming her blood she's infected and has at most a few days to live. Unless they asspull that Abby is coincidentally the one other person in the entire world who's immune. (and they probably will)

Naughty Dog so desperately wants Abby to become a thing, no way they're going to kill her off, let alone by a means that would be poetic and ironic simultaneously in allowing Ellie and the playerbase to actually bring her down purely using in-universe concepts like the zombie fungus.

Exactly and it's not the first time that they do this, see Nadine in Uncharted 4, not only she beats the shit out of the main character (and the player can neither block her attacks nor fight back), she gets away before the end of the game and gets her own DLC.

What's funny is that between Uncharted (and if the leaks are true, what's going to happen to Indiana Jones) trying to make a female the 'big' central character instead of the male lead, how quick everybody is to selectively forget Tomb Raider and Laura Croft.

Always nudged me the wrong way, like trying to massage Cajun Rub into clearly putrid meat. Instead of taking over franchises, why don’t you make your own? Make yourself stand out with woman leads, instead of trying to transition into a male dominated space where clearly people wouldn’t appreciate it?

I’m sure people wanna see a kick ass female hero slicked in blood and oil, bad ass in all her glory, but inserting that character in a pre-existing setting makes it appear leech like, and ya get less rep for it.

Build from the ground up with a new fanbase, prove to the world female heroes can be kickass, on their own, without supports of pre-existing lineage. Very simple. Difficult, I will not deny, but you WILL be respected a million times more.

that's because you think they want respect.
any new IP is a risk, woke or not. now look who is at the forefront of wokeshit: dangerhairs, soibois, femnazis, coddled people with zero life experience and fragile egos, you expect those people to write a good story, make a good game and then can deal with the inevitable failures before they succeed (which is not a guarantee either mind you)?

nah, much easier to take over an established franchise with an established customer base. when it sells millions because of the brand name, not personal competence, it's much easier to delude yourself you're "successful" and think you produce something great, anyone else complaining is just a jealous, uneducated incel, after all the sales numbers confirm your overinflated opinion, so you don't even have to confront the criticism which would lead to you become better at what you do. it's lazy and cowardly, while at the same time giving you money, power and prestige. humans are humans after all.

Neil Druckmann comes off as holding a massive grudge against Bruce Straley, and Amy Hemming, for what in his eyes, "censoring out his ideas". Now that both of them are no longer at ND, he's given himself free reign to do what he was denied from doing in the first game.

Also, I wonder if he got inspiration from things such as Season 8 of Game of Thrones, and the Star Wars Disney Trilogy, heck, even LOST, in terms of his heavy use of "Subverting Expectations".

It’d be of no surprise to me, but I do want to say something that may draw some negativity- I think subversion is an excellent tool. But writers in this day in age believe subversion isn’t an instrument of harmony, but of disruption. Not of bends in the rivers, but clean cuts in the damn. All shock, no tension. All speed, no impact.

There are great ways to subvert settings. My favorite is Kento Mirua’s Berserk, where the main character never gets to be happy, and the one moment he does, it is quite litterally fucked into oblivion and left a shambling corpse.

There is always a message of hope shrouded in this deep dark hell world where god and all of his men wish for your complete erasure off the face of the earth. It is a story despite being wrapped in cynicism, cold to the touch, about recovering from loss, beginning to blossom intimately, and to live in a world you thought had died. Where you can’t sleep not because monsters prowel around you and the forest is all to quiet, but because you are finally at ease. It is so hard to close your eyes, fall asleep, because you’re already living the dream.

Then when you awaken on that horrid day, your entire life is a nightmare. Existence is a chore. Everything you had fought for was lost in the blink of an eye. You are powerless, you are godless, you are the smallest David to the most powerful Goliath at the battle at the edge of time.

They tell you you can take back your life, and that you can, mocking you all the while.

While they do, with those same hands, you’ll take there’s too.

That is long played, totally perfectly gut fucking wrenching execution of not just subversion of a story. But of a genre. A generation.

That is masterclass. Druckman wishes in his wet dreams he could write that well.

Because they're parasites much like the cordyceps fungus itself. They eat the brains of existing franchises and turn them into lurching zombies that are merely a caricature of their previous selves.
any new IP is a risk, woke or not.
At this point, so is hijacking yet another franchise. It's now assumed that any "reboot" is absolute shit and is going straight off a cliff into retardation, not even because "woke," but because shit. People who don't even care about wokeshit are now used to Yet Another Capeshit Movie being bait-and-switch crap.

So yeah the famous franchise name might get you an opening weekend but that will drop off rapidly after word-of-mouth.

@Secret Asshole started an in-depth thread on this very subject. You might like it. It goes into the good and the bad of the issue.
