You know. I really hate this one just because it's wrong. Vinegar is the superior fly bait. Even in social situations. Cults of negativity tend to grow far larger and quicker than cults of positivity. The issue is, riopey wants to be the center. He wants to grift. Grifters need new stock at a certain rate to not tap them out and develop a net negative effect. They also exhaust their followers. Rioley never considered that.

The thing about negativity is that it's not liable to retain those caught within it, as per your mention of grifters changing the stock of available people. Positivity would retain fewer people overall, but there's a greater chance of keeping those same people, rather than switching them when the need arises. I'm sure Brett's pessimism and anger issues will bring some to him, but they're not going to remain due to the constant stream of negative thoughts and statements. Thus, I find the saying to be more accurate, due to the flies staying longer with honey (positivity) than vinegar (negativity), even if the latter would at times draw more than the former.
