Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

Abbott was blocking the crossings with state troopers but I doubt it actually did much aside from the optics of a silly amount of police cars lined up along the Rio Grande. They probably just handed them over to the feds who then just released them anyway.

Then we might want to pay close attention to Texas and see if their NG gets activated. Abbott does put up a lot of bluster but he probably wants to remain governor for another term and this would be a huge cock-up if he permits the Mexican border to get swarmed by this next wave.

I wonder why Kyrsten Sinema is the opposition to this bill and Mark Kelley isn't. Sinema isn't up for re-election until 2024, but Kelley has to face re-election again in 2022 because he got McCain's seat (which McCain was re-elected to in 2016, so the seat has to be voted on in 2022).

You would think that Mark Kelley would want to show Arizona voters that he's not a big spending, leftist Democrat.

Sinema is the opposition because why on earth wouldn't you want to keep her if you thought she was fighting for your best interests. Dems haven't even "resisted" yet by fielding a primary candidate against her. Sinema's charades are just tragically fortunate optics.
