Any update on this?might be able to do without my personal info. will check tomorrow to see if it's all right or a problem.
it's a death record, even if work allows me to look for personal reasons (why I asked, "he's an online friend and we are concerned") it'll still take a while to know. and that's if it's in US records by now.Any update on this?
The waiting game is the worst kind to play. Nothing we can do then.it's a death record, even if work allows me to look for personal reasons (why I asked, "he's an online friend and we are concerned") it'll still take a while to know. and that's if it's in US records by now.
a while=6 weeks to 3 months
I have learned today about byuu's alleged death and since I knew him a bit I wanted to share my thoughts.
First I have looked for confirmation of his death and found no third party source. The only source is a document that is ALLEGEDLY written by a byuu friend. It is really a shame that kotaku, usatoday and a few others reported his death with no third party source. It just proves that everything we can read online is just pure unverified garbage.
I am glad that you guys are doing the job of looking for legitimate sources.
Now my personal experiences with byuu. I was involved in the MAME/MESS project about a decade ago and met byuu at that time. We have exchanged a lot of emails which I am not going to share (I don't think I still have them anyway). What I can tell is I was very impressed by the extreme dedication of this guy and his noble goal of creating the first cycle accurate snes emulator. At the same time I could see he had a gigantic ego, but he had accomplished that much that you couldn't really blame him. It got worse later when he started his multi-system emulator, and I was wondering how a lonely guy could accomplish more than hundreds of MAME devs, it seemed foolish and vainglorious to me.
I eventually lost interest with emulators and was unaware of his whereabouts from that point.
Until June this year, my GFX card was broken and while waiting for a replacement, I downloaded a few emulators to pass time. I couldn't launch pSXfin so I looked for alternative psx emus that don't require direct3d. That's when I heard of Ares emulator which is made by byuu but I didn't know back then since he changed his nick to "Near". I visited the Ares discord just to ask if the emu was compatible with directdraw, and byuu went crazy over it, suspected me of being a "troll". I was basically asked to explain every single detail about my life just to make sure I wasn't a troll. :[ I lost interest in that nonsense and just left the discord.
I didn't even realize that Near guy was the byuu I knew and respected a decade ago. Clearly the guy went completely paranoid and nuts.
I'm looking forward to hear the end of this story but there is one important point I wanted to make. In his last tweets byuu claims that he has done nothing wrong other than "being weird online". The truth is he was just as wicked, just as involved with online drama and harassment as the guys who were harassed him. This is the true curse of mankind : we can never see our own evil, no matter how blatant it is.
"I don't know why he thinks this."The whole talk page is a goldmine.

Attorney/client privilege survives the death of the client, so he couldn't say anything anyway.Has anybody tried reaching out to the lawyer who Near provided when speaking to Null?
Has anyone considered trying to sue Near for something and contacting his attorney to serve papers on him? If Near is alive and the lawyer is still his lawyer then wouldn't he need to accept the papers? Defamation seems like a decent route imo considering the damage his lies caused.Attorney/client privilege survives the death of the client, so he couldn't say anything anyway.
Except it would have to be John Q. Smith of such and such an address trying to do the service, not Kiwi Farms user SmegmaSucker1488, correct? It doesn't even matter if the lawsuit is frivolous, since all we need is to verify whether or not he is alive.
Only if the client has authorized him to do so. Also if he's actually in Japan, it would have to be done through the government by the Hague Convention process, which takes months.Has anyone considered trying to sue Near for something and contacting his attorney to serve papers on him? I wouldn't be surprised if when he resurfaces, one of these screeching whack jobs goes and murders him for fucking up their narrative. What's been so bizarre to watch as this whole event unfolds is just how hellbent people are on declaring 'Yeah he's dead. He's dead. 100% Dead. Totally and utterly' while silencing any and all dissent or questioning to that falsehood. It'll be funny to see him inevitably resurface and see everybody who practically demanded that he actually be dead memoryhole this entire event.
IANAL, but I think it would be an interesting move for Lolcow LLC to sue Byuu for defamation. Byuu or his estate doesn't appear, reap default judgement. If they do appear you'll either get the proof, or he'll have to reveal himself. Lose, lose, or lose on his part.Has anyone considered trying to sue Near for something and contacting his attorney to serve papers on him?
