Plagued Consoomers / Consoomer Culture - Because if it has a recogniseable brand on it, I’d buy it!

Fork in the sink thing though you're absolutely right on with though. I thought that was just a common kitchen thing though? people throw shit in the sink till they feel like washing it. Unless you're a restaurant then it's pretty normal for that kind of thing.

I usually wash my dishes right away after I use them, but I use my sink for a lot of things so I usually need it to be empty. I wouldn't snub my nose down at anyone who does let an amount build up before they clean, but I notice with my friends they usually have forks in theirs with a layer of dried stuff on it, which they then fill up the sink too hot to "soak" it, leave it for so long it gets cold, then they complain they wish they had a dishwasher.

And they sure the hell don't cook. Unless you count microwaving pizza pockets as cooking.

Let's be real, the people who own pure white kitchens probably don't cook.
Cooking is an inherently messy process even when done properly. There's a reason commercial kitchens are all stainless. Gotta clean that shit.
These ones, however, have that uncanny "stock photo" look to them, both layout and unsettlingly clean-ness wise.
When ever I see immaculately clean kitchens and good looking obviously not lived in interiors, I don't even think stock photos. I think 3D rendered with Vray.
They SkiptheDishes chinese food and leave the fork they ate with in the sink for 2 days before washing it.
Fork in the sink thing though you're absolutely right on with though.
Highly :optimistic:. They probably use plastic sporks that came with the rice in a box.

I learned something today. I hate Rae Dunn pottery.

This is an Etsy seller that specializes in this aesthetic. There are thousands of them:

The romanticization of being a poorfag while also spending hundreds to thousands of dollars on said "Aesthetic" comes off as extremely condescending.
Thats describes what became of grunge, hipster, indie scenes which are analogue to that cottagecore aesthetic . Theres a very old phenomenom of the commodification of lower class signifiers and fringe movements. In a way is not that different from aristocrats in the 19th century fawning over pastoral painting of shoeless farm kids in luxurious salons.

Now rich kids like to larp as humble and folksy but they are still acting like they are britney and the backstreet boys, taking photos in their little cosplays as if they were for the cover of Vogue and shilling name brands like professional poseurs. These richfag fashion brands will sell you washed out ripped jeans at a markup because pretending to be a poorfag who can't afford to replace their jeans costs extra. Special offer in Dr Martens, for only 200$ you too can walk around and feel like you are a working class punk from an industrial guetto.

Even though you know in less than 6 years they'll have to change their appliances because they broke.
Quite literally, from what i've seen thats how much people expect their electrodomestics to last nowadays. It seems insane, a washing machine or a fridge is something you used to expect to keep for decades. My fridge is older than me and still going then you read about these new fridges with all the gadgets and stuff not lasting even a decade.

I mean, for the most part it works.

Items get soaked, you drain the sink and put some fresh water in and everything just glides off like that.

It's a hideously inefficient way of doing things but whatever, I get to wash up a whole day's worth of dishes in 5 minutes.

Been slowly getting into vinyl and holy gods is it chock full of consoomerism, even just focusing on the records themselves while ignoring all the audiophile autism with setups which is an entirely different discussion. I haven't even been looking into the more mainstream scene, which I bet is just as messy, but mainly the indie future funk and Retrowave stuff that (along with Vaporwave) is full of extreme limited releases that sell out in minutes eaten up by scalpers which makes the secondary market plain awful. You also have people obsessed with owning as many records as they can regardless of even liking them, just wanting to flex how much they spend while crying about no money. It's not like Future Funk or Vaporwave songs are even that original since a good chunk is just 'old song sped/slowed down' with most of the good artists quickly moving on to actual original pursuits like with Saint Pepsi switching to Skylar Spence.
I know a bunch of bands do "limited edition" vinyls that come in a rainbow of colors. Or for the more obscure metal bands you get the "special [color] vinyl limited to 666 hand-numbered copies." The latter example has always been around but now you see those limited edition vinyls marketed everywhere. I'm pretty sure I've even seen the vinyl edition itself marketed as limited edition compared to the CD release. It's probably good for the artists because it ensures the vinyl sells out ASAP which is counted toward record sales and thus chart position (which makes you more valuable to your label and concert promoters no matter if you're a big name or obscure).
Mine too! But instead of a Limousine, it's a 10 year old corolla model.
A 00s Toyota Corolla is like the opposite of a limo since it's the quintessential "gets me from point A to point B every day" car.
There's no piles of manure you moved with a tractor. No broken down machinery - no broken anything, no lopsided fences, no rotting straw heaps, no unmatched sheds/barn or fallen down structures. It's fucking a movie set. Whimiscal, just a little rustic and quirky, clean, and Instagrammable. Because that's what farming is, right? Not hard work.

I'm so happy land here is at least $700,000+ for something decent so those aesthetic chasers can't afford it. They can stay in the city far the fuck away from us ruralfags.
The closest these people will ever get to rural is a crowded suburb. If they actually moved out into the countryside they'd quickly be repulsed by the sound of Bubba's rusty truck revving up, Cletus's dogs that won't stop barking all night, and random gunfire from some guy hunting or shooting cans in his backyard and or wonderful aesthetics like how a fat guy like Jim Bob mows his lawn in his underwear while drinking a beer or how they have to pass decaying trailers and barns on the way to the store (1 hour away unless you want to shop at the dollar store where the locals shop). And better hope they don't hit a deer on the way to or from there!

No offense to Bubba, Cletus, and Jim Bob, but a lot of these sorts of people probably don't actually want the reality of that lifestyle.

The whole "city person moves to the country then proceeds to bitch about everything around them and demand it be changed" thing is a VERY real phenomenon, at least where I live. Especially towns that are close to the city.

Slight PL maybe: my mum grew up in the countryside and told me a story about this campground near the area that a lot of city folk would make use of, always annoyed the locals with their complaining about how reality differed from their pristine image (largely caused by the smell, farmers starting early in the morning, there not really being much of anything down there, etc.). Fun thing was that one of the local farmers that had his fields upwind of this campground made sure every morning to make sure his fields were nice and fertilized with pig shit, didn't care how much whining he heard from the campground downwind he continued.

I had that exact feeling about the explosion of so called 'street food' places, which seem to almost totally be in upper middle class areas. The other half of that trend is also the idiotic 'authentic' obsession of foodies, a huge untapped (for KF) source of cowdom.

I'm reminded of those Dianxi Xiaoge videos that epitomize this romanticization. It's come to a point where anyone who sees her vids has Chicom Propaganda alarm bells ringing. Apart from the high production quality, you have a woman with milky white complexion dining with a family that are all swarthy.

I never heard the term "cottagecore" before this thread (and particular line of discussion), but she's the first person I thought of.

Sounds like a Chinese version of Pioneer Woman? For anyone who doesn't know her, she got started with a high production quality blog where she presents herself as a humble down south cowboy's wife, when their family was one of the richest in the state, and the humble ranch was multi-million dollar properties. Her recipes are pretty kickin though.

This is why I hate cottagecore so much, these people wouldn't last a second in a small one traffic light or less town or the country. Thing is with COVID, a lot of people are getting idea of moving out of the cities where things are congested and moving to small towns especially since working remotely is popular and shitting up the small towns and whatnot and complaining all while driving up the price of houses in the country.

I will have to find some examples on Reddit or something, but the knitting/crochet community is chock full of consoomerism. Infact, hoarding yarn is seen as something quirky and memed constantly like "oooooooh... look at this pretty yarn, I don't know what I could use it for and I have a million projects that I still have yet to complete but it is so pretty tee hee." there is so much impulse buying it is crazy and it is glorified. I could imagine if they ever release a variegated yarn based on the various pride flags the fiber art reddit will go bonkers and the thing about variegated yarn is most of them only look good with very simple stitches that an idiot can do, perfect people who don't have the patience to learn anything beyond single and double crochets and are just satisfied learning the bare minimum of the art for brownie points.

You don't even have to make an argument like "these people aren't even capable of being self sufficient for a single day" or "I bet none of them know how to do house repairs, let alone wilderness survival."
The ~country~ has shit fucking internet, how are they supposed to play their Overwatch and make tik toks showing off their kawaii farm life when their speed is worse than dial up? And IDK how prevalent this is in the US but where I'm from if you live in a middle of no where shithole the chances of being eligible to receive most delivery services are mostly low to none, because either your address is fucked up or getting to your house is difficult. As for mail you usually put your address down as the small town grocery store or a municipality building, then you drive all the way there to pick it up yourself. But getting things like take out food is near impossible lol. So not only is their internet shit but they also lose the luxury of ordering more consoomables that can be delivered right to their doorstep, how are they supposed to manage (:_(
