It panders to tumbrites about as hard as humanly possible, while still being pretty decent. The combination of being something socially acceptable to like and something people can unironically enjoy is the basis for boring people with no lives to form key aspects of their personally around.
Besides the show having gay characters, I can think of two other things that might be going on.
It has sci-fi world building and story arcs, which appeal to autists. The alien race featured in it are all female, so lots of lesbian stuff. There’s a bit of gender bending. And as a kids’ show, it won’t get too heavy on the kinds of adult issues that troons don’t like thinking about.
Multiple lesbian pairings, lesbian wedding, lesbians with swords, giant dominant women, multiple nonbinary and androgynous characters, a big caterpillar fusion meant to represent a polycule, rampant mental illness, horrible people getting away with heinous shit (up to and including being a genocidal dictator) and facing no repercussions because they cried and said sorry uwu, morals about self-care, escaping abusive relationships and embracing your own identity, "body positive" character designs, anime references (particularly to Utena which is also beloved by the TQ+) and child crossdressing.
I think he was just looking for a way to outrun his responsibilities, and this seemed like the quickest, easiest way. What group, other than troons, would accept a deadbeat father, who abandoned his children, with open arms? Maybe pedos would, but the only people who would hang out with pedos are other pedos. Troons could teach him the way of the grift, and he'd never have to get a real job or give a penny to those pesky kids or that annoying wife.
