I suspect that, assuming Tom is not lying (a big assumption), they just said that to humour the obvious maniac. For all Brianna and Billy are a mess, I doubt even they would side with Tom. Both of them rely on mainstream acceptance. Tom is too open about his grotesquerie and perversion. At best, they probably hope Tom can cause Null a couple of headaches before his money runs out.
