Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp all go down in major outage

So what's everyone's vibe?
It’s within reason that it’s a benign reconfiguration gone wrong, but it can also reasonably be a targeted attack because this is most likely the one and only thing you can do to completely fuck over Facebook’s otherwise redundant and robust network infrastructure.
Another option is they're trying to find whatever the backdoor was for the hack and need to keep shit shut down

I fucking cant wait for the noose to tighten on the internet. And we all know it's coming. Google has been getting super creepy lately, plebbit has been tightening up. They really are trying to ensure only real, human IDs are online.

The flipside of this is that it will now be possible to have an entire fake persona. None of the verification tech is super robust, so you could very well be living life as whoever you wanted to be.

They are utterly powerless against someone who chooses to simply not be online. There's already alternatives to pretty much everything.
Yeah I can't wait until this incredible tool we have to communicate with people around the globe and get information out that powerful people don't want being spread is gone.

At this point the powerful are just censoring the information they don't want people finding out. FB is basically a mouthpiece for them at this point, and we, the masses, eat it up like Chris on Barb

I think that’s not a realistic possibility. Facebook wouldn’t shut their stuff down just because they leak some data, that’s just not the kind of company they are. And shutting down everything won’t stop a more determined attacker that’s inside their network, as they will have secondary network access outside Facebook. In any case, completely shutting down the company operations for an indeterminate time is very expensive and if intentional, the flip-side has to be at least as costly. Ballpark figure billions of dollars.
