Patrick Sean Tomlinson / @stealthygeek / "Torque Wheeler" / @RealAutomanic / Kempesh / Padawan v2.5 - "Conservative" sci-fi author with TDS, armed "drunk with anger management issues" and terminated parental rights, actual tough guy, obese, paid Quasi, paid thousands to be repeatedly unbanned from Twitter
Gotta love this subtle seethe from Anna "This seems like a huge investment of your time, what do you feel like you got out of it?"
Anna was spending hours of her professional life having meetings with lawyers and editors over a story about a fat guy who gets called fat online. Meanwhile, half the emails this guy sends have typos or grammatical errors. He was probably daydrinking and watching Cheers reruns the whole time. Cope, lady.
Thanks for posting those. After listening it's my opinion that that's probably not actually Fatrick. The voice, while slightly altered to sound different doesn't sound gay enough to be Patrick. And the call that just went "Butt fucking pedophile" is too funny to be Pat. My guess is it was someone trolling him and all a part of the plan. They dropped that 'Rahul' name and "I may not be a cop anymore" line to string him along and make him think he was going down the right path with the information he'd gotten from the mole. Fat Rick, being the lolcow (lolpig?) that he is was too retarded to pick-up on such an obvious breadcrumb.
Yeah. This is why I've always liked the "F" part of SFWA. They aren't limited by such stupid concepts. Tbh, when I was a teenager I looked at joining the SFWA as a major goal. In the last week I've learned a lot of weird shit about them. They probably would have fucked me in the ass. KF has a great way of pointing the spotlight in just the right direction.
Edit: By "F" I meant "Fantasy". I realize it has a double meaning in this particular sense.
The organization has definitely seen better days, that's for sure.
I still urge newbie authors who qualify to join - if only because members get better contracts - but there is a reason half the members are in near open revolt against the clique running it... and why dozens of authors who are leaving the organization after having supported it for decades.
The scifi community has been reddit incarnate for at least a decade now. Though really, the publishing industry and authors as a whole have all been severely pozzed in recent years. These tend to be very sheepish people who parrot everything that's trendy in mass media and academia while pretending they're original or creative thinkers.
A decade? Why not several decades? The only sci-fi authors I can safely say have ever had conservative, or even moderate, views, would be Robert Heinlein or Philip K. Dick.
Fantasy feels less pozzed. I wouldn't necessarily say it's all Tolkien and Lewis levels of based, but it's more than just the author's sooperiyah fyootchah wish fulfillments.
Then you haven't been looking very hard - not only because spec fiction has had dozens of famous right wing authors, and still does, but because there are hundreds of less famous ones who need love and support.
When I say reddit incarnate or pozzed I don't strictly mean all forms of leftism so much as the specific types of shrill social media-addled strains of neoliberal progressivism and socialism where anyone who so much as sneezes the wrong way is literally Hitler. It's no secret that mainstream publishing has had a left wing bias for decades, especially since a lot of it is done in New York, but even ostensibly left-leaning authors from the 50s, 60s, or 70s would be crucified for publishing some of their most famous books today.
Dan Simmons wrote a short story about a time traveller that went back in time to warn people about Eurabia 15 years ago on his now-dead website and people still have their panties in a twist.
Simmons is one of those guys who, 30 years ago, was on the left wing, but for supporting freedom of speech and basic reality, is seen now as some right wing hack.
Does the legal fund get filled from part of the membership dues or is it only by donations? The website mentions they let you donate and choose if it goes to the medical or legal funds or "where needed" it seems and full membership is only $100 a year. But even if their dues aren't being misused and pissed away on cases like this, it being donation driven should worry members anyway because they don't necessarily know how long it takes for them to squirrel away 100k in donations for it. I wonder how much they're sitting on at any given time if they were willing to keep at this case even after it went well beyond the scope of review bombing and all that.
Pat has screenshots of "the old" reddits? If Pat's scraping for posts with the word fat combed through everything and he accidentally archived the Bob Kelly AMA with 200 posts of fat jabs, all is forgiven. I wanted to read that again.
edit: lol the evidence folder. Those faxes from Hooligans.
Imagine being Pat. You're at Hooligans day drinking at 1pm on a weekday, trying to look as badass in your leather jacket as you sit at the bar when suddenly the bartender you've been trying to impress with war stories of challenging trolls to brawls and fake vandalism at your home walks over and spreads out several sheets of gay pornography of you with a cock down your throat and emails of blatant disrespect for you and your family.
Even he has to know that the staff at the bar is talking and laughing about that shit all day behind his back. And knowing all of that, keeps paying to drink more to try and forget it. A true blessing for the bar.
Combination of taking some from dues, endowments and donations... they have had a flood of the latter from spearheading a lawsuit against Disney for screwing authors like Alan Dean Foster out of owed royalties.
This makes me wonder if early Scifi was more hard hitting and popular because the lines of division were more clearly drawn. You were a communist or a patriot. A nazi or a patriot. A supporter of the Vietnam war or a ... hippie? Idk what that other group would be called and I'm not throwing shade. Granted, I have no political mindset whatsoever so don't take this as a jab one way or the other. It just seems political lines were more closely aligned with public opinions of "good" and "evil" in earlier days. Today, the battle is between "Trumptards" and "Biden...tards?" (idk what they are called). Today's lines are more about Americans vs Americans. I imagine it's more difficult to write a political SciFi along these lines because you are drawing a more significant line between the readers in America. Between your audience. Idk. Just a tangent and some thoughts.
Back to the main story: Patrick is a fucking retard.
The loonie lefty faction that took command this past decade certainly has seen a decline in the popular eye... thier habit of continuously pushing works that are just utterly terrible hasn't helped.
It doesn't matter how many Hugos you give Rebecca Roanhorse or Mary Robinette Kowel, they can't force people to buy, much less enjoy thier books.
As stated before though, tons of people not among those ranks... from Baen to the pulp revival.
We're talking about a guy who spends hours telling a HuffPo journalist who doesn't actually exist all his secrets and desires like being the star of Gamergate 2.0. Pat has zero self-awareness. To them, he's the weirdo at the bar with the laptop who occasionally steps out and screams CHILD at his phone. But Pat Rick probably thinks he's some hotshot regular and takes the servers and bartenders doing their job and being polite as proof he's an essential part of the establishment.
Maybe he is, since a couple of Yelp reviews seem to imply he's quite the fixture at Hooligans.
Morally grey SF stories have been popular for a few decades, probably in part (at least in the US) because Vietnam was the generation-defining example of a morally grey conflict.
I think that's fallen out of favor to some degree among the "literary elite" since now "people" (read: elites/corporate suits) want a story about good and cartoonish evil--Disney Star Wars is a great example. ASOIAF/early Game of Thrones was probably the height of popularity in recent years of morally grey SF, but maybe you have a point since that was the Obama years.
When you only hype up and hire a specific strain of leftie LGBT authors who cut thier teeth in fan fiction, why are we surprised all thier books are the same and you can't tell any of thier works apart?
Two term President of SFWA, so far more likely a combination of Sanderson defering to her office, plus, his famous friendliness with damned near everyone.
When you're one of a half dozen authors whose booksales keep Tor profitable, you can afford to be everybodies friend.

FWIW, people have speculated on the forums that Mary is the driving force behind loaning Patrick the money, because she was personally offended by the rude things that were said about her.
They want to push the narrative that the lawsuit is "defending all authors from Nazi trolls" instead of spending member dues to fight Mary's enemies that 99.9% of the SFWA doesn't care about. The only members that get made fun of are the ones in Patrick's twitter clique who bait the trolls ("wow Patrick, I can't imagine how pathetic these incels are, attacking you because they have never once satisfied a woman") and most of them are smart enough to leave it alone when they get pushback.
What's ironic is she's probably never even read In The Black and all the creepy sexual shit Patrick has in the book. He uses "tickling privates" to describe the rapes of a Harvey Weinstein figure. He has an alien eat another alien's dried up cum in the most casual way possible. There's a billionaire who customizes a sex-robot, and every single female crewmember on a spaceship is young, hot, horny, on birth control, and super-desperate for casual sex. This is the book that needs to be protected from any and all negative reviews.
He should watch Star Trek more often. Voyager alone had two such characters that would be considered "horn dogs", three if you consider Neelex part of the crew, there would also be two or three gorgeous women on each show with at least one wearing a skirt or a skin tight uniform.
As usual, Rick is a fake science fiction fan.
Since Rick really wants to know. Yes Data is fully anatomically correct.
So are any of the other androids in the show.
The only Star Trek officer neurotically into coomer shit was Reg Barclay who was universally mocked for it and nearly fired. It was character development for him to get over that. And this bullshit show has some retarded orgy?
Imagine using that sideshow freak picture of yourself. I think John does that to taunt people that they have to pretend he's anything other than an obvious man.
