General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

What surprised me is how much more I started enjoying the first gen people once the second gen came along. Not sure if it was me slowly warming up or something else. But I watch Niji more than Hololive at this point and I barely watched them at all before 2nd gen debut.
Weirdly enough, it's been really similar in my case. I haven't really watched the first gen at first, if anything it honestly felt disappointing in the sense of "damn, can't believe they're just following the idol approach", but I've been really starting to warm up to them recently. Still not really a fan of Finana, but Elira and Pomu have definitely been growing on me once they started trying things out, whether Elira's karaoke or Pomu's edginess for Minecraft and the date stream. As far as 2nd gen goes, Petra's still not really in my interest, but her piano's definitely comfy. Rosemi turned out completely different than she seemed to be, but she's still probably the comfiest watch. Selen's been pretty consistently great though; that explosive personality is the exact thing Niji needed, and it's part of what's getting me to watch someone play a BR I normally couldn't give less of a shit about.

I haven't watched anyone that's in the 3rd wave, so it'll be interesting to see how that goes, especially once they start settling in and really showcasing themselves. Either way, Nijisanjification isn't stopping any time soon; guessing they want EN to catch up in member size to the other branches, JP would probably be going too far. Complete shot in the dark here, but I'm guessing they're gonna step on the brakes either after wave 4 (the guys), or after a mixed gender wave 5.

What was the word again? Nepotism? Lol
Apparently when it's friends rather than family, it's cronyism, the more you know. It does seem like they're aiming for candidates with pre-established chemistry of sorts, whether between each other or with already existing members. It's gonna make wave 4 pretty interesting, considering that you would probably need one yakuza's hand to count the amount of male Vtubers (who aren't already known for other things, ex. Takahata or Merryweather) popular in the West. KamiyaJuu does have the numbers, but that's pretty much primarily Philippines.

Also, if the name ChibaNyan (the guy producing wave 3's debut song) sounds familiar for some reason, he's the guy that made that one Gibara mix.

This would make more sense than building their own server. This is Cover, the same company that tosses new employees a new iPhone and says "You're all set, go stream!" without mentioning "Oh by the way, that i7-6700K probably won't cut it, you should upgrade your potato...". I sometimes wonder if they even have IT staff at all. Don't think I would trust the company to not fuck up a server build.
Cover's an IT company with a focus on Altered and Virtual Reality. If you feel the urge to scream having read this, I encourage recording it for the sake of humor.
They're a tech company for sure, just that like 90+% of tech companies, they're not on the cutting edge, they're along for the ride.
Hell, one of their first offerings was a VR ping pong game which is free-to-play and released in 2017, yet still only has 96 reviews. IIRC it was actually made by Yagoo himself and one other guy. Polka played it recently, looks alright for a 2-man operation, I'm not knocking it, but it's clearly not turning any heads.

As far as the equipment, maybe they've just done the math on all the "PC fund" Superchats that stream in whenever someone shows a 1060 on their Minecraft F3 and decided to let it be.

So it's pretty much 100% that that's Lyrica in NijiEN 3? I'm happy for her! I didn't know of Shannon before but I'm happy they got in together. So far I'm liking all the character designs too, looking forward to the debuts.

Where's our resident Niji expert to weigh in on the announcement?? Maybe passed out from excitement.

Bruh. Got some feels from this screenshot.

Minecraft streams will be really good from now on. I loved how the new girls basically brought life to the EN server and now that the girls can play with the JP ones this will prompt more random non-scripted collabs and more chances for them to fuck around and possibly push them in the direction of actually collabing. Miko has a clip of her commenting that she reached out to one of the EN girls to schedule a collab in part thanks to Kiara.

There's so many jokes with a song named God Sees All.

I'm going to guess Nijisanji is going to take the approach they would traditionally do and mostly hire people with previous online content creation presence and/or just someone off the street who is mildly entertaining. Which may or may not prevent an EN Shindou Raito incident.

Will have to see if the new wave's designs grow on me, they aren't bad by any means but something about the art I've seen of them thus far just makes them feel indistinct or samefacey to me. Maybe it's just a bad first impression but time shall tell. Looking forward to seeing their debut regardless.

Their designs looks like something you would see in gacha imo.

They probably will pick a streamer. I have a feeling that picking up a VTuber will probably led to some disaster considering most of the male indies are quite...shall we say tend to have ulterior motives joining corpo. Getting a good male talent for EN is very challenging, and the vetting process will probably taking longer than usual. Maybe that's also why Cover decided not to start a HolostarEN, on top of supporting the existing Stars first

I always believe though, that solely recruiting from past VTubers is not exactly a good tactic. They're tend to not bring anything new to the table. I mean, just look at people like Calli, Nene, and Botan

Oh yeah, they have successfully erase the memory of the Raito incident, isn't it? But ever since that day, I've always have my doubt with Niji's vetting process. That and the Roa (was it?) incident. Then again, when you recruited lots of people in very short times, you're inevitably going to get a bad apple or two

This RIP remix goes hard, ngl

Edit: Okay, not really a remix, just some layering over DOOM music

For the love and grace of God, I keep forgetting that fucking faggot Takahata is a tuber now. Made me physically ill to look up his twitter, but he seems to be keeping busy in his little hugbox of the internet. It helps he has the bloated, maggot-riddled corpses of DBZA and TFS to member berry the last time he was relevant before he hitched his wagon to this. I hope it stays that way. Lord know he has the ego to think he doesn't need corpos.

(Thanks a lot Susan, you ruined my punchline.)

Millie is out in the lead. Her pinned tease for her premier includes a video, not just a static image. And if it turns out to be Lyrica (which, the ongoing shitposting war she's been holding convinces me more and more on that fact) it's going to be worth checking her out at a very minimum.
