The message, however, appeared to be lost on a sizeable portion of netizens who struggled to decipher the cumbersome and seldom-used acronym – which stands for: Two Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, and Asexual people, with a plus-sign added for good measure to cover any potentially overlooked groups.
“I honestly have no idea what 2SLGBTQQIA+ means,” one perplexed commenter tweeted, while another requested a translation: “I am asking unironically, what is 2SLGBTQQIA+?”
Many of those unfamiliar with modern wokespeak were in disbelief that such a convoluted acronym could be a real thing. One observer suggested that Trudeau might have accidentally dropped the nuclear codes for NORAD [The North American Aerospace Defense Command]. 2 spirit for the longest time came up as a footnote in anthro 101 textbooks. In the chapters on shit like Cultures & Gender where you'd learn gender has always been basically a binary. There was one particular tribe of plains Indians that had a "2 spirit" category. Someone who had the spirit of a man and a woman simultaneously. Yes, the way two spirit is being used by perverts is a misappropriation of the historical concept. The main emphasis there is on the traditional gender roles, the Cherokee expected you to act like (their barbarian version of) a proper lady or a brave warrior, you didn’t have to be the right sex for it but you had to adopt the whole persona or none of it.
