We don't hate everyone downstate as much as the fact that politicans like the former Cuomo, like Chuck Schumer, et cetera, focus almost exclusively on NYC problems and don't give a fuck about upstate.
Upstate NY isn't red, but it's only blue by like 52-48.
New York State will never go red because of NYC, but I can see Upstate becoming very purple in the next year or so if this shit continues.
Edit: It might even be less than that. I took the 2020 election results for NYS, removed 6 counties that "essentially" make up the bulk of the NYC vote (Westchester, Manhatten, Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau, Bronx), and it came out to Biden 2.305M and Trump 2.212M. That's only a 51-49 split. To be fair though, I did leave in Staten Island which Trump won 57-42 because that is a more conservative part of downstate.
