Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

Southwest Airlines cancels more than 1,000 weekend flights

Southwest Airlines canceled hundreds of flights over the weekend, blaming the woes on air traffic control issues and weather.

The airline canceled more than 1,000 flights, or 28% of its schedule, as of 5 p.m. ET Sunday, according to flight tracker FlightAware. That was the highest rate by far of the major U.S. airlines. Next in line were Allegiant and Spirit, which had respectively canceled 5% and 4% of their flights on Sunday, according to the flight tracker. American Airlines canceled 2% of its flights.

Southwest Airlines said in an emailed statement that it had experienced weather challenges in its Florida airports at the beginning of the weekend, which were compounded by unexpected air traffic control issues in the same region. Those issues triggered delays and prompted significant cancellations for the airlines beginning Friday evening.

“We’ve continued diligent work throughout the weekend to reset our operation with a focus on getting aircraft and crews repositioned to take care of our customers," said Southwest Airlines. “With fewer frequencies between cities in our current schedule, recovering during operational challenges is more difficult and prolonged."

The company said that it's allowing customers to explore self-service rebooking options on Southwest.com, where they can get updates on the status of their travel.

However, Henry H. Harteveldt, president and travel industry analyst at The Atmosphere Research Group, based in San Francisco, points to other causes for the cancellations.

First, he says Southwest has scheduled more flights than it can handle, a problem that started in June. He also noted that Southwest operates what’s known as a point-to-point route network, and when a delay occurs, it “cascades” along the remaining flight segments. That's because, for example, a Southwest flight departing Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for the airline's home base of Dallas may make multiple stops along the way.

But Harteveldt says the most troubling reason is the likelihood that some pilots who oppose Southwest's decision to mandate COVID-19 vaccinations are participating in an illegal job action where they call in sick or are engaging in a “work slowdown.”

In a statement Saturday, the airline’s pilot union, Southwest Airlines Pilots Association, said that's not the case.

“SWAPA is aware of operational difficulties affecting Southwest Airlines today due to a number of issues, but we can say with confidence that our pilots are not participating in any official or unofficial job actions," it said.

Harteveldt noted Southwest's woes could linger and affect its fourth quarter financial performance.

“All of this is happening as people are in the midst of booking their Thanksgiving and Christmas/New Year holiday travel,” he said. “It’s very possible that some people who might normally book on Southwest may see this news and choose to fly other airlines.”
-----------------------------------------
Southwest tried to force a vaccine mandate on their pilots and staff on Friday(iirc), Saturday the pilots and staff started calling in sick and not showing up. Southwest is trying to say it was the weather last night, but 1,000 more flights were cancelled today. So I guess it depends on who you believe is telling the truth.
Saw this, take with a grain of salt but looked legit. Keep in mind they said they had to cancel flights out of Reno, Nevada today but Reno was perfectly sunny without a cloud in the sky.

Now the fun REALLY begins. Watch the "the wannabe rich & social climbers of the college educated middle upper class" @Homegrown Homophobia mentioned say as a response, "GOOD. YOU PLEBS DON'T NEED TO BE TRAVELING ANYWAY, DON'T YOU REALIZE THAT WE'RE IN A PANDEMIC RIGHT NOW (A PANDEMIC THAT YOU'VE HELPED PROPAGATE BECAUSE YOU WON'T TAKE THE FUCKING JAB)?!" I've got my popcorn ready

The issue is that by all means, Biden's way past the point where he's able to actually be in charge. We are really looking at a Wizard of Oz illusion, ignoring those in the booth.

All of the recent policy failures are likely due to his team, whatever Obama hangovers are still there, and the state office, which makes it far more ominous.

I think instead of a 'bad' president, we need to seriously consider that the entire head of the fish in DC has started to stink in terms of competence.
I did say earlier that Biden is really a failure of the administrative state. The belief that Deep State knew what they were doing has been shattered and the uniparty has weakened as a result. There's no five year plan and no vision coming out of Washington. That's really the source of negativity.

To go one step further, I don't even find democracy to be a serious form of government. Yes, I know in theory we are supposed to be a republic, but a republic is the Deep State in practice. We rip on communists for not understanding human nature, but democracies themselves fly in the face of human nature as well. A functioning democracy requires its citizens to be heavily invested in the welfare of the State. To that end, they had to be educated to some degree in governance and foreign affairs if for no other reason than they could be fighting a hostile country at some point. Now look at the typical US-born citizen. Ignorant, short-sighted, and selfish. These are the people that demand a King; they simply can't understand the nuances (lol Tim Pool-ism) of Federalism. TBF, the bureaucrats and politicians themselves are ignorant, short-sighted, and selfish as we have seen for the past 50 years, so it's understandable why regular people check out. It's no excuse though. The result is that no one except for exceptional mavericks like Trump have a vision on how to deal with current events and even he has that monarch-aura that does legit make him a long-term problem for democracy as a political philosophy.

Universal suffrage was a nice idea, but ultimately a mistake. Limited suffrage is the way to go if you wish to keep a democracy, with the explicit gatekeeping that only those who have skin in the game (land, family, whatever), can vote.

INB4 they just double down.
Airlines are one of the highest expense-lowest revenue industries that exist, and this was the case even before COVID. I'd like to see Southwest go underwater because they... oh who am I kidding they'd just get another fucking bailout if they fired all the unvaxxed.

Between your wine mom comment, bullshit I've read on my local nextdoor, and reading about gleanings of the labor crisis on social media/4chan I sometimes think the real danger in authoritarian tyranny in America may not be from the mega rich but from the wannabe rich & social climbers of the college educated middle upper class. They seem to be the ones who really get off on lording over masked serfs at Starbucks as they get served their over sugared coffee. And it transcends being a Democrat or Republican too - Your average GOP voting small business owner who hires illegal scab labor is just as guilty as your typical suburb living mask Karen screaming about those stupid unvaccinated Trump voters.
It's 90% western white women causing this because of the need to appeal to social media clout. A perfect example of this is Alyssa Farah, she was in Pence's staff and briefly the WH press under Kaylie Maceneney. Her dad owns Newsmax, and she got her position in the white house as a favor, but she is desperate for DC clout. Says all the right RINO things, thinks there was no election fraud, acted like 1/6 was 9/11, and was even on The View recently as a guest host where she was still, STILL treated like trash. And she just sat there and took the beatings from the other women like it was penance and deserved.

As I get older I've come to the realization it's just not healthy to date western white women anymore unless they've shown they're brave enough to tell others to fuck off without being a Karen. I'll stick with asian and cuban women for the time being.

White woman? Nahh lol she's the texbook version of an upper middle class Arab American chick, even down to the clothes and hair and makeup style

Though they're waaaaaay better than the woke ones

Why are flights suddenly being cancelled?
Organized walkout over Southwest attempting to make medical decisions for their workers.

Apparently Biden is "trying to pull a Reagan" with them but I'm not old enough to get the reference. I'm presuming Reagan pulled some sort of union busting stunt back then?

This isn't like the nurses, they can't just grab the National Guard and make them run the airports. At least, I don't think.

Goddamn, I hope they do. But for some reason, I was expecting United to be one to pull a retard move of this sort. Southwest usually has been the more savvy airline from a management standpoint. Or their tendency to treat passengers like cattle is finally coming home to roost.

Reagan fired like 10k air traffic controller early in his presidency over a strike.

In 1981 the Professional Air Traffic Controllers Organization (PATCO), a union with 13,000 air traffic controllers as members, went on strike. What did Reagan do? He fired 12,000 of them, and replaced them with other ATCs, miscellaneous airport personnel (some of who weren't qualified) and soldiers. It wasn't pretty but it did work.
