I think whether or not something interferes with your life is the litmus test for what counts as "really sick" vs. "minor sick" or even faking it.
You could be balls to the wall schizophrenic, but so long as the gang-stalking space aliens aren't interfering with your daily life and ability to live happily, then you aren't really "sick". Then on the other hand you have people with things like misophonia which seem like no big deal, but if it's so bad you throw up if you hear someone eating, then that's going to affect what kind of jobs you can get and even things like your ability to go see a movie or something.
These people are closer to the former category, but are choosing to put themselves in with the latter. It's the same phenomenon as people who say they're depressed or have anxiety, when in reality they're just feeling shitty or stressed. It's not the same thing.

Agreed. There are people who accept the gang stalking space aliens that are out to get them are going to win and since there's nothing they can do they may as well just live a normal life. Then there are those who can't. Not to power level, but mental illness runs in one side of my family so I know what real schizophrenia can do to people. It's not pretty. I'm not fully sane, but since I KNOW I'm not when the insane thoughts pop up I can manage them without pills or a just-as-crazy-and-wants-to-know-why PhD . I might not also have strong symptoms, but I can't know that for sure.

This is why these people claiming crippling mental illness pisses me off. Especially when it's obvious that with a couple coping mechanisms they'd probably be fine. They don't want to be fine. They want to be weak, infirm, and insane so it's MY problem, as someone who can manage my mental problems, to take care of them. It's pretty much the whole "I payed back my student loans, why do I have to pay yours" argument. Just sub "student loans" for "crazy."

The troonery is the coping mechanism. They want the attention, the leverage to emotionally blackmail others into giving you sympathy and money. To be a victim is to be able to blame someone else for their unhappiness. That feeling of being hard done by, and to have some kind of righteous justice in your grasp... that's a pretty potent drug.

Personally, I think it's more a defense mechanism. A coping mechanism is a system that lets you deal with reality and accept things as they are. A defense mechanism? It's to protect yourself. The trooning in the way you described it is to protect them, in my opinion, from being plain. Boring. Average. Remember that as a whole, leftists are obsessed with not being normal. Sure, it's all part of the grift but I honestly think (in my best armchair psychologist way) that they're so incredibly terrified of ever being Joe or Jane Average they have to invent all these issues or they might collapse into being another mediocre human being just like everyone else. They think the Internet will be forever and it's their only shot at immortality because they can't handle that one day they'll be dead and no one will remember them.
