Being an edgy atheist is no longer as "charming" as it was. When you become a more condescending asshole than a diehard preacher, or you always were all along, that's where I have more sympathy for fundies.Conventions were a different animal in the past,it was pretty awesome to be around people who shared the same interests. Joking & having fun all weekend long, weebing out with each other. Rabid feminist, lgbtq & Toxic liberals have infected most cons like a cancer. I had been attending this con for years and it was unrecognizable from 2019. When I was walking to the parking garage one of those Christians who hand out pamphlets(not the god hates fags ppl, just regular Christians) tried to give a cosplayer one and she refused and the church lady asked " is it OK if I pray for you then?" The cosplayer hatefully responded "haha nope I'm an atheist witch I'd rather burn" thats just one of many autistic events I witnessed.
The ironic part? Had the paradigm been back to when fundamentalism was mainstream, that same "witch" girl would be eager to burn heretics. They have no principles or integrity. They're largely one of the main reasons why fundamentalism got so out of hand in the first place.
By the way, in this economy, why would a con even be essential financially? I imagine even the most well off con goer would have second thoughts in regards to that.
