even in russia the communist party is tiny, irrelevant and powerless nowits interesting how in these countries there's a decent amount of people nostalgic for the USSR but when it comes to the polls communist parties in most countries (with a few exceptions like Russia) do badly
the thing is, people who are nostalgic for a totalitarian anti democratic system aren't gonna bother with voting anyway because they don't believe in democracy. they know that you will never get a system change like that by voting for a political party.
the only totalitarian regime that ever came to power through democratic elections was hitlers nazi party in germany, who managed to take advantage of the fact that the democratic republican political system in germany was extremely weak and unstable, that allowed them and their paramilitary to intimidate and bully the parliament into passing the enabling act which transferred all legislative power away from the parliament and gave it to the chancellor (hitler) instead.
no state today is anywhere near such weakness though, so a democratic way into totalitarianism is basically impossible. that means the only way to get there would be violent revolution and civil war, like the original bolsheviks in russia or franco in spain. from that position it makes sense why nobody bothers voting for the commies even though a lot of people are sympathetic to their cause.
