Nice work. Now that I'm able to see the whole trailer, I'd say it looks like all of the combat is wacky and cartoony, and dumb, except for that one scene with Rose fighting bugs that bleed red. I wonder why? Did someone just animate that one fight scene wrong and accidentally make it cool?

Honestly this show looks just like a mediocre cartoon. I think it would've gotten less hate if:
1. They didn't release that god awful trailer with all those SJW caricatures talking about feminism and shit
2. Crunchyroll (and it's shills) didn't parade itself as a charity service that would save the anime industry
3. This show was pitched to HBO instead

The first one is probably the most important here. No one likes being preached to, but you can mitigate how badly people will react by not being obnoxious about it.

Personally I think it was the second point I made because even without the feminist shit people were really mad that a non-anime show was made by Crunchyroll and felt their money was funneled towards that instead of supporting anime

The first trailer was made before production even began. Crunchy Roll was really proud to show this off before they had anything to show.

Journos will write about how the chuds and incels who hated it were wrong, and the journos are always right, and they'll pretend its the first LGBTQIA+ show until the next alphabet show comes out. Then HGS will be forgotten and they'll repeat the process.
You think those dickheads at Crunchy Roll didn't have a single second of animation, and that's why they made the bullshit trailer? I've heard people suggest it, but I didn't actually believe it until we got the first and second trailer.
Speaking of which, I want to remind you all that the show looks as bad as I thought, except for the one scene of the pink girl fighting the bugs. Besides that, it looks as cheap, dumb and "uwu magical girl!" as we all expected, so there's no real reason to think anything else just yet.
It was a gamble, one that didn't pay off because it couldn't pay off as they were advertising to a group of people that hates everything they're trying to do. Hey guys, I'm going to go on that white supremacist board (the daily stormer?), and pitch my brand new cartoon focusing on black empowerment! I'm sure that'll go well!
No? Then I'll use my backup plan of going to a synagogue and pitching my new cartoon called "Hitler? He was kinda based!" I'm sure that'll go fine!

And to drive this point further, they were advertising to a group of people who thought paying for their subscription service to support the Japanese animation industry, not more western cartoons. The whole shit of the feminism combined with Crunchyroll's attempts to look like this charity organization really fucked this show over

Oh, Raye was doing something dumb? AFAIK, Raye was just standing around because CR had full control over everything. I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if the showrunners were as dumb as Crunchy Roll, but Raye on twitter seemed to want nothing more than to just shove HGS out there as soon as possible.

We'd have a tired, cliched, ugly, cheap, gender special, Tumblr cartoon being sold as an anime, but with decent writing.
Is that enough to save the show? I doubt it.

Violinist of Hamaln is the ur-example of yes you can do an anime that functionally haves no animation but got by with a great story. Anime is clock full of very questionable animation quality and the better ones had the story, narm charm, memes and etc. to keep them out of the shitheap. HGS not only is completing against the good shit but also the bad shit, and the supposed third option of being mediocre ain't going to fly either.

Yeah this show is gonna bomb. The fact that they gave a "mature" show such a childish artstyle really doesn't help. Not saying kiddie artstyles can't be used for mature things but the trailer gives the impression of a children's cartoon so there is no clear tone for maturity.
