As a Brazilian I can say it's probably because up until like 10 years ago before TV started pushing for LGBT rights and gay marriage gays were pretty much synonymous with pedos, and for the right reasons. I don't know what remote rural communities are like in the US, but Brazil has lots of them and it was extremely common for children to be kidnapped, raped and killed by gay people in those places or be put under ransom, every week the news would televise about a new case in some small town with 500-15000 inhabitants in the middle of nowhere. I don't watch TV anymore but over the years it's as if these cases just went "poof!" and stopped happening, you don't hear about them anymore which may be why you think LGBT acceptance should be higher here. Also keep in mind Brazil has LOTS of crime, most of which go unpunished, so you pretty much have to take justice on your own hands. Combine that with people who are impulsive, overly sexual and don't have anyone to hook up with (specially before cell phones became popular) and you get these disasters. Most people, specially those in these remote locations, grew up being wary of gay people.

I wonder why hordes of menacing and specifically gay people don't roam about at will kidnapping children by the dozens all over the world then. what makes Brazilian gays so different, and also able to organise themselves into powerful pedo gangs all across the country, despite apparently being totally disenfranchised before a decade ago? they didn't have anyone to hook up with before cell phones so they had to kidnap children to rape? so even though there were enough of them to organise multiple kidnappings for the purpose of sexual gratification, absolutely none of them could find another fag willing to fuck them? and they were all gay? all of them? absolutely no heterosexual men involved in the kidnapping and raping of children even though heterosexual males organise pedo rings all across the world especially in dumpster fire countries where impoverished people are easily exploited? just desperate gays banding together to prey on children because absolutely none of them can find another gay to fuck?

I can only respond to what you SAID.
"it was more common with gay people" - what does this mean? it was more common for gay people to be the kidnappers, or for male children to be kidnapped? there are reasons beyond sex that male children may be preferred for trafficking purposes. but if you mean that homosexual identified adults were doing the bulk of the kidnapping - okay, how exactly are those stats being recorded? especially when male sexual predators are known to prey on children opportunistically rather than because of explicit pedophilic urges? were there enough of these kidnappers who were caught by police and interviewed about their sexuality to cull this data?
