I've considered the possibility that Bonnie is the one that doesn't want Kindness there and he's just blaming others to try to deflect her anger. I can see him telling Kindness that in another life, he'd run away with her in a heartbeat -- but the trans haven work is just too important. It's bigger than the both of them.
