But because Black has turned himself into a public laboratory of psychopathology, I want to talk about how I'd go about reinforcing what is best in people. Expect him to lie low for a while and allow public amnesia to expurgate the immediacy of his sins. Afterwards, he'll obviously return to rotting out the foundations of our religious, moral, and political values. My hope, though, is that the second time around, people will be aware of the fact that the central paradox of Black's perceptions, the twist that makes Black's disquisitions so irresistible to capricious wretches, is that these people truly believe that the most valuable skill one can have is the ability to lie convincingly.

Black is capable of only two things, namely whining and underhanded tricks. Even as I write those words I can feel Black cringe. That's okay. Cringe. I don't care because the problem with him is not that he's filthy. It's that he wants to exhibit a deep disdain for all people who are not sick-minded, destructive whiney-types, but we can all have daydreams about Happy Fuzzy Purple Bunny Land, where everyone is caring, loving, and nice. Not only will those daydreams not come true, but I will never give up. Black cannot be tamed by “tolerance” and “accommodation” but is actually spurred on by such gestures. He sees such gestures as a sign of weakness on our part and is thereby encouraged to continue causing pain and injury to those who don't deserve it. Whenever Hayden Black wants to appear impressive and moral, he makes aggrandized declarations about how loyal he is.

This is a slightly old post but I wanna touch on it quick.

At this rate, unless Hayden is literally more oblivious than Barneyfag or our very own OPL, I think he realizes that he's basically shot himself at the starting gate and there is no way that he's going to be garnering a positive reaction to Gen Zed the way it's going. I think the reason why he's basically acting like a total colossal fuckwit and asshole all across the board (other than the fact that he has an inflated ego) is that he's trying to ride this controversy train to make Gen Zed popular as an absolutely terrible show that everyone watches. He probably sees threads like ours and thinks "Heh, I can fool all of these idiots into talking about this shitty show and doing my promotion for me, and I can sell merchandise off of how terrible it is." It's kinda like trying to do a modern day Ed Wood, or possibly a discount Sharknado.

The thing about those things is that they were rather fun and hilariously incompetent, while Gen Zed is just... well... incompetent. There's so bad that it's good and then there's so bad that it's bad, and Gen Zed sits squarely in the latter category. To add on that, both Ed Wood and the people behind Sharknado didn't act like complete and utter twats prior to the release of any of their things, so people didn't have a reason to intentionally spite the creator from the get-go.

Gen Zed's largest burst of views will be from the people who view this product just to see what a complete and utter catastrophe it is, but I doubt it has the staying appeal of things like Plan 9 from Outer Space or Ride to Hell: Retribution that makes people want to keep going for how terrible it is. Hayden's banking on this being the next Room or something, but as it stands it'll probably be more like, say... Love Guru or Mindjack: Forgotten within a week of release.

The main difference between so-bad-it's-bad and so-bad-it's-good is mainly effort. Like, yeah, the effects in sharknado look shitty, but all the actors and animators obviously put effort into it. Despite that, it still ended up shitty. That's why it's funny to watch. Because you can tell that effort went into it, but it still came out looking like ass.
Gen Zed's overall production looks like shit, and there's no effort behind it. Shit production with shit effort. If the creators are just doing this to make it popular, then there's nothing to laugh at. It's more funny when the creators tried to make something good, but it turned out bad anyway, a la the Room.

"High production values" include recording from your living room and hiring a single animator working on Photoshop (!) for the entirety of your cartoon.
