The Catholic church was pretty infamous for how rich they got from people paying their way to heaven and modern day tele-evangelicals are trying to run the same racket. The Old Testament (Leviticus) had quite a few instructions on how ritual sacrifice should be performed. And, of course, the Greek gods were pretty anal on how shit was done... Until that time Apollo's shrine was destroyed and the lack of divine retribution was a sign that the ongoing invasion against Greece was justified.
As far as Native American religion goes, I'm not entirely sure if they were into offering stuff to a shrine.
But overall, this can all be solved by a few trips to the library, which is something that their mods are too woke to do.

Also the original poster is right. You can see it in even the literature of the Greeks like the Iliad and Odyssey. One of the revolutionary things about Judiasm was it's entanglement of morality with worship. Just as pagans had rules on treating an idol with respect because it bore the image of their god, the Torah begins with man being made in YHWH image, so by the same token, humans are to be treated with respect. (The 2 rules that sum up the law of the prophets.)
