What’s the deal with brides in sneakers? I know not all women like heels, but there’s plenty of tasteful flat shoe options out there.
I had a YW leader who had sneakers on for her wedding (not in the temple, of course lol), this was in the early-'00s, too. It was for comfort reasons, she had said, though probably was also for the lulz as her husband thought it was funny. Honestly, I think if you're going for an outdoor wedding and there's still a bit of walking around, sneakers would work best.
Isn't with Mormon weddings before you had to wait a year if you had a civil ceremony before you can get sealed? I know IIRC they recently changed it so you didn't have to wait a year so you could include other family members and also with temples closed during the pandemic, not to delay the start of marriages, a lot of people before just got sealed because they were too afraid their spouse would die or something before they got sealed or something. With the pandemic though, I think from what I have heard that has become more of the norm to have a civil ceremony which is good.
Converts (I think even still nowadays) had to wait a year before marrying in the temple (anecdote: my late-grandparents married civilly when Papa was a newly-baptized convert, they got sealed just before my aunt was born over a year later). The exception for the waiting a year after civil marriage rule was for those living in countries that didn't recognize temple marriages, though I think members complained to the general authority enough (because first world problems amirite) they made it that more readily available for everyone to have that option. Though I feel like they would've done it anyway, especially since it was more convenient during the pandemic to get married civilly (when possible) while temples were closed--although it still took about almost a full year before temple sealing ordinances were opened back up by appointment anyway. My mom also believes the day will come when even the U.S. will stop recognizing temple marriages as a valid marriage, so having a civil marriage license before entering the temple makes sense.
At this point, I think only the most up-tight of older members take issue with the thought of having family members marrying civilly first, even if it's due to the "no empty chairs in heaven" mindset. But if death were to occur, temple sealings can be done for the deceased as it's mainly done by living relatives, though if that doesn't bring comfort to those concerned in this life, then I suppose nothing will.
