Global Supply Chain Crisis 2021: Megathread - A cozy thread for watching the supply chain fall apart just in time for the holidays

Should the title be re-worded to expand the scope of the thread?

The longer the shortages of basic consumer staples go on for, the angrier people will get. Higher prices are one thing, people just cut back on luxury goods or stop buying them altogether, but if there are no eggs, bread, meat, dairy, fruits and vegetables, etc, at the local stores that will in turn lead to the sort of anger and unrest that can't and won't be quelled by police departments. The whole "abolish the police" bullshit the left was going on about last year came at just the right time for many cops to quit their jobs too, "lucky" bastards, since they won't be the ones getting murdered by angry mobs of pissed off hungry people.

We saw what happened when there were no circuses to distract us last year. What happens when there is no more bread?

Lots of people get killed, there's really no other way to put it. Hell, we could wind up getting a new flag at the end of this, or maybe the country breaks apart, I dunno. I say this as someone who is considered to be one of the more optimistic posters on this site, food shortages are trouble that only competent leadership can effectively deal with. We don't have that right now, and we won't have it for another few years at the earliest.

Seeing how the elites in California are actively and purposefully adding to the supply chain issues, the fictional reality as depicted in the 2016 scifi dystopia show Colony is getting closer to reality, bar the alien subplot. Basically, big cities in California are divided into blocks and staple resources like food and medicine are rationed, causing enormous strain on the people. Naturally there are resistance movements, but the authorities clamp down harder to quell any resistance.

Let's see how far the arbitrary trucking and port regulations go..

It's weird, it's not like you'll go to the Wal-Mart and there'll be no food at all, just random items will be missing each time. For example, I noticed there was no frozen french fries at my local Wal-Mart the last week.

Again from a non-american perspective, but it seems we are feeling some spillovers as even locally produced goods rely on imports. Wheat is a great example!

Not the same, but precisely, some random shit is missing from the shelves. Certain flavours of soda, certain sizes of bottles, stores are well stocked so it's not like anybody is going hungry due to this, but some things are randomly missing!

Things are set to get worse however, there are talks of truckers striking and the inevitable spillovers from the global crisis are going to get worse as time passes by!

Seeing how the elites in California are actively and purposefully adding to the supply chain issues,

Pardon my ignorance, but how?

As someone who exclusively shops at one local butcher that produces/hunts all their own product and one shop ran by dairy farmers selling their self-produced grass fed product I haven't noticed a single disruption or price increase so far.

Except for gasoline. Will investigate our version of Costco and other large wholesalers tomorrow and report back on the situation in Western Europe.

A global collapse of the supply chain if lasting long enough could send us down the path of another dark age considering how many people rely on it for basically everything. People would have to move away from big cities and later become farmers in small towns. The US government would cease to exists as they wouldn't be able to set up a proper supply system for managing armies and services in time for them to not collapse. This is really the worst-case scenario which I don't see possible, this really isn't a big kick in the head unless it comes in tangent with a few more things like a major war or natural disaster that would further disrupt the chain.

Just a guess, but i think the missing sizes of some products are done on purpose to maximise profit and product shipping. a 1L bottle of coke may sell for £1, but a 2L bottle will sell for £2.20. If coke spend all of their manufacturing/production time on one SKU, in this case the 2L bottle, they make more money, while keeping the shelves stocked.

What to buy that does not need refrigeration or cooking? Worse case scenario meaning, get in the car towards PA to escape the diverse hords from NE NJ and NYC. I live near both a state and interstate highway that connects NYC to PA.
Just about anything that comes in a can, just pull over and heat up your can of hobo beans on the exhaust manifold

You mean under the hood of course. I would hope I would meet up with others that would offer shelter. Winter's coming.

Seriously if you need survival food on the go, pemmican is the way. Energy dense, nutritious and lasts indefinitely.
