I always heard it was basically impossible to fire people after they've unionized, but I was deep in the lefty bubble back then, so...
You pretty much have to be able to afford to fire every worker at once, and live in an at-will employment state where you don't need to give a reason for the firing. If you don't have that you need to find a legitimate grievance to fire the employees in the union for in order to avoid a wrongful termination suit. Being part of a union is usually protected by law so you can't be fired just for that.
Passing the first bar is easy since these are some of Paizo's least valuable employees. They can afford to fire them all or have a walkout end with them being replaced. Getting a good excuse to fire them would be harder. Hell, Paizo might just let them do this as long as they never have any real demands.
As I'm reading from the twitter thread, they haven't officially unionized. They have declared they recreating the campus socialists because that's the last time they felt powerful. That's why they want voluntary recognition. If this was a real union, Paizo wouldn't have a choice.
know this because I was going to start a union at a place I worked (ended up deciding fuck it and got a new, better paying job)
If you want to create a real, honest-to-god, federal labor department recognized union, there is a process you must follow. For starters, you need to declare your intent to request a union vote to your management. Once this happens, you are now unfireable until the vote concludes, unless your employer is dumb as fuck - if you win, you are now employed for life. (If it falls through, if your employer is smart they also don't fire you - they simply stall your career and salary until you move on.)
Anyway, in your notice to management, You need to declare what sort of workers you are unionizing, and what union you intend to join. Here you have CSRs and some Art Fags; so I think a Service Workers union would take up the CSRs, I imagine there's a creative union for the art fags, and the computer touchers go into really weird unions a lot. Anyway, each of these areas being unionized has to vote - the entire department. So the whole CSR department has to vote.
The Federal Department of Labor will be made aware of this and will be watching the whole process like a hawk, ready to pounce on fuck ups by either side. If the vote succeeds, the employer has to work out a contract with the union. Terms can and will vary.
So Paizo can easily say "Fuck off, where's the union letter? We need to have a vote."
Regarding the difficulty of firing people in the union:
It really, really depends. It definitely ups the difficulty to the point (depending on how involved the union is) they usually prefer to just shove you into a corner and ignore you until you leave.
Unless you have done some grevious, illegal or borderline illegal, shit it is nearly impossible to shit can you, personally. When Union Employers downsize, they tell the Union "we are eliminating X positions" and the Union usually does the firing, usually based on seniority. If you are insolent, insubordinate, or otherwise you personally are a shitbag, management has to go through the Union. Depending on the Union contract, Management can also request (or require) performance metrics.
Anyway, tl;dr clearly none of these faggots have done their homework, they just to performatively live out their communist crusader fantasies.
for all the memes they are still far less pozzed than WOTC
Yes but also no.
They were more intelligent about how they inserted woke; they had a long standing policy of no 'sexy art'*. I mean they got their start with a fag paladin quest giver in their first module. So they were more about going 'big tent' and less about declaring men in dresses are women. Part of this was they didn't just hire wokeites and based on skin color or if they liked getting gangbanged in the men's room, they also hired normal people.
Principally, they knew how to not alienate their core audience.
*Which I don't necessarily disagree with; I don't need tits out in my source books. But they did it for woke points.
