I'm pretty sure a most of the save data is stored in the registry, which is just awful.
If you type regedit, then HKey_currentUser > Software > YandereDev you can view it in all its glory.
Go look at another game you have and do a size comparison between them, its spaghetti. It's a mystery why they didn't just store it in a plain-text file as a temp thing.
That looks like persistent save data for a playthrough; it contains student reputations, whether they're alive, photo positions/scaling and other things like that. I was thinking more of the save system where you start a school day, make a few changes to the school environment, then save/load that. There's no data in the registry about the school environment.

I was just browsing through my registry the other week and saw it, thought it may relate somehow. From my understanding the Registry is supposed to be used for system specific things, correct? When I look at other games made in Unity they have only about 15 or so entries (did a quick estimate, ~2687 from Yandere Sim) all relating to game settings. Do you think Alex himself made this part of the save data, or the volunteer?

If it's halfway competently implemented in a fashion that makes sense, Alex almost certainly didn't do it. Also, I deleted YanSim's registry entirely and opened the game so I knew it wouldn't be impacted by stuff left from older versions and only be populated by the 10/10/21 build; Yansim has about 3898 registry entries. I think we can safely conclude this is solely Alex's work.

Also, while I know I harp on a lot about Alex's uncapped framerates making your GPU scream in agony, the quick and dirty fix he did (during the loading/introduction, set a framerate cap in Unity) does not apply at all to 1980s mode, so your GPU will whine in pain every single time a loading screen, town, basement/bedroom location is brought up. That's what I get for being lazy and not using RivaTuner to cap the FPS myself.

October 17 bug fixing build (archive)
Argh, yesterday’s build was buggy! I’m so sorry! I tried to fix the issues that were present in the previous build, and I also implemented some Quality-of-Life improvements that people have been asking for over the last few days.

To read a list of everything that was fixed or changed in the latest build, scroll down past this beautiful artwork by Ayayako!

Fixes and Changes
  • Attempted to implement a “Reset Week” system. The game will now make an autosave at the beginning of every week, allowing you to return to the first day of the week anytime, from either the Calendar screen or the Heartbroken screen.
  • Fixed bug that would cause a rival’s gift box to always appear on the 1st rival’s desk, instead of appearing on the current rival’s desk.
  • Updated the official Yandere Simulator website to explain how the ranking system works: https://yanderesimulator.com/s-rank/
  • Attempted to fix a bug that would make it possible for a non-1980s save file to accidentally load into 1980s Mode.
  • Fixed bug that prevented the game from acknowledging when the 80s Sports Club leader was nearby his club area.
  • Attempted once again to fix the “Game is stuck at rendering only 10 meters in front of the camera” bug.
  • Fixed bug that caused the Journalist’s pepper-spraying animation to deform his face slightly.
  • Fixed bug that made the 80s Sports Club leader’s jogging outfit clip through his armband.
  • Fixed bug that prevented the 1980s Mode confession music from playing.
  • Updated the “POOL’S CLOSED” sign for 1980s Mode.
Note: The “Reset Week” feature will not work for you until the next time that you pass through one of the cutscenes where Ryoba describes her next rival.

Correct. As Alex releases updates he wanted a way for people to keep their save files without having to transfer files. As his player base is mainly children who barely know what a file browser is. By using the registry the save data can be persistent. HOWEVER, this does not allow for a Linux build, go figure.

Using the registry is stupidity beyond belief. Why they didn't use the documents folder is a mystery.

Hello! I fixed more bugs!

To read a list of everything that was fixed or changed in the latest build, scroll down past this beautiful artwork of Yandere-chan’s original design from 2014, drawn by Abrivion! (At least, I think that’s what the signature near her thigh says!)

Fixes and Changes
  • Attempted to fix bug that prevented the player from being able to access the easter egg menu in Yandere-chan’s time period, even after enabling debug commands from the Extras menu.
  • Fixed bug that prevented the gravure rival’s character model from being hidden by a garbage bag if she was placed into a garbage bag after she had changed into a swimsuit.
  • The price of buying Narcotics from the Yakuza now goes up every week, to reflect the fact that each rival needs to be more difficult to defeat than the last one.
  • Fixed bug that caused the sculpture of elderly Kocho to be present in 1980s Mode and not present in modern day, which is the opposite of how it should be.
  • Fixed bug that would cause the game to softlock if the player accepted the Martial Arts Club Leader’s Task and then spoke to Sora Sosuke in 1980s Mode.
  • Fixed bug that would cause the game to totally ignore the fact that a student had been arrested, if they were arrested through the Narcotics method.
  • Fixed bug that caused small black cylindrical objects hovering slightly above the ground to appear in the Sociology Classroom in 1980s Mode.
  • Fixed bug that made certain modern-day Task objects (like Ryuto’s bandana) appear in 1980s Mode after accepting a student’s Task.
  • Fixed bug that prevented the student council from saying their voiced lines in Yandere-chan’s time period.
  • Attempted to fix bug that prevented the player from being able to use the Fan elimination method on Osana.
  • Fixed bug that would cause parts of the Space Witch title screen to appear in the Miyuki title screen.
  • Fixed bug that prevented a save file from appearing on the list of save files, even if it existed.
  • Fixed typo that would appear when the counselor interrupted class to speak to your current rival.
  • Fixed bug that caused the Yakuza to appear in the street scene in Yandere-chan’s time period.
  • Fixed bug that caused Sumire’s ghost to appear in the bathroom even before she had died.
  • Fixed bug that caused the Student Info screen to display the wrong student’s ID.
  • Fixed bug that prevented Ryoba’s hair from having an outline in Yandere Vision.
  • Fixed bug that caused the dance machine interface to be invisible.
  • Students no longer read a creepy demon book in 1980s Mode.
  • Added two new dolls to the doll shelf.

I'm only guessing that Aishi is spelled 愛氏 so that it means "the clan of love", fitting the lore. But surnames don't tend to end in 氏, especially since it collides with using 氏 as a generic neutral honorific. Also, Aishi is not actually used as a name, especially since it can mean 哀史 sad story, 哀詞 condolences, or 哀詩 elegy.
pretty sure the surname Aishi came from a suggestion from a fan because Ai = love like you said (which is a normal guess for a name for a yandere character), but Shi probably comes from death, which makes no sense as a name but would 100% make sense in context of Alex and his shitty names, which becomes far worse in consideration. imagine naming your main character, not a side character or gag character, "lovedeath," 愛死 of all things... not even an edgy grade-schooler would come up with that...
There is a female given name Rakuyo 楽代, I haven't found Rakuyona, and -yona doesn't sound like an ending of a Japanese surname.
maybe "yona" as in 夜 (night, yoru) with different reading?
or since "moeko" literally comes from "moe" maybe it's a sentence-to-name thing like before, like "raku-yone" or "raku-dayone" (aren't/isn't [noun] fun/easy?) if it's with that intention, i would've named her simply 設楽 モエ (shidara moe) or instead of moe, moeko like before (time setting) because it goes with the fun-loving or kind/feminine character from the shidara god that prevents illnesses, also being a common surname
might be also a misreading of Nabata Matsuri 名畑祭 or Nabata Saiichi 名畑祭一, which are valid full Japanese names.
i agree fully...
Kaguya Wakaizumi 若泉 かぐや
this is my least favorite name out of all of the ones you've posted that Alex made ironically because it makes the most sense; it's not even absurd, silly, or strange in context, but it's just so boring. a stereotypical surname and name both having the meaning of a yamato-nadeshiko-like, feminine, cultural, beautiful idea with nothing extra added to it. it feels out-of-place even though it's most fitting for a game using anime stereotypes as characters.
Also fun fact, what pictures don't show is how many Japanese students dress in uni. Because all schools in Japan have uniforms, regardless of if they're private or public, you get pretty much everyone dressing a little weird because it means they can all actually try out fashion.
yeah, japanese college students are more similar to stereotypical anime-personalities much more than high schools, i've always wondered why media tries to portray an idealized high school "seishun" thing when people irl after high school while still being young + partying in college are much more interesting than the over-exaggerated media in itself.
many plot holes in yandere sim (weird decisions, horrible hairstyles, strange conversation, lack of restriction/excessive freedom) would be solved by setting it in an arts university (as in 芸大), just with the addition of everyday clothes instead of uniforms and a different campus.

I mean, granted all of this should have been fixed before release, but I still have to continue to give him props for how fast he is pumping these patches out. A dude fixing this many bugs this quickly would be many software companies' wet dream. I worked in software for 6 years, most programmers are pretty lazy (It's a boring ass job).

Edit: To give you an idea, the average programmer probably address like a mix of 5-10 bugs/new features every two weeks. 5 being the more common and 10 being the true ace's that actually have a future moving up in the company.
Yeah he does a lot of fixes but they mostly arise because he implemented everything in the worst possible way. Bugs like
  • Fixed bug that caused Yandere-chan to use Ryoba’s body proportions while in the town environment.
  • Fixed bug that would cause the game to totally ignore the fact that a student had been arrested, if they were arrested through the Narcotics method.
seem like they could have easily been avoided with a proper structure.
And his gameplay fixes are even worse. Most of them should have been in the release, not in a debug build.

Yeah, the bugs are very likely a result of his strange else-if trees, he likely forgot to add the new case to one of his many blocks.

I think a lot of hobby programmers are just excited to get things done, they don't think "wait, maybe this isn't the best way to do this." I refer to him as a hobby programmer because he still programs like one, as much as he insists to the contrary.

Edit: I remember most of my experience was hobby projects when I first started my career. My programming leader would put limits on me to try to challenge me to program better like "Keep your methods 10 lines or under," or he would have me study some latest library. I appreciate all of that, he made me want to take pride in my work. I got luckily with a first boss like that.

Seems like all of the critical bugs have been fixed at this point, and the remaining bugs are just inconveniences / oversights. Progress!

Fixes and Changes
  • Fixed bug that would prevent a male corpse from entering the appropriate pose if the player killed a male student by crushing them with a bookcase. (I never expected you guys to try killing random male students with the bookcase just to see what would happen…)
  • Fixed bug that would cause Ryoba to recieve a “text message” from Info-chan (scribbled on a notepad) if she took a photo with a camera from the Photography Club and then pressed the button used for sending photos to Info-chan.
  • Fixed bug that prevented Osana’s suitor from changing his appearance after the player told him what to change about himself.
  • Fixed bug that prevented the names of your targets from displaying on the pause screen during a Mission Mode Multi-Mission.
  • Fixed bug that caused the child version of the Mysterious Woman to appear on the street in Yandere-chan’s time period.
  • Attempted to fix bug that would result in VHS effects being visible at the title screen outside of 1980s Mode.
  • Fixed bug that prevented the subtitles at the Heartbroken screen from looking correct in 1980s Mode.
  • Fixed bug that caused Yandere-chan’s low-sanity hallucinations to use Ryoba’s hairstyle.
  • Fixed bug that turned all text in the pause menu black outside of 1980s Mode.
  • Fixed bug that gave Ryoba the wrong hair model in the intro cutscene.

  • Informative

....this is how videogames are played Alex. How can you be making a sandbox and have no idea how people play sandboxes?? The whole point of bug testers is for this exact reason, thats why you can't do it yourself.

His brain is full of coomer goo don't expect him to remember how a game is supposed to be played

We all know the "they're all 18 roleplaying as highschoolers" is b.s but I wanted to point some things out that this new lore now made even more obsolete:

Kokonas backstory: Her father took out loans for the school and is in debt to the mob, so she sells herself to help out. Now we know this is all happening so she could pretend she's still in highschool?

Delinquents: The entirety of genkas backstory with them has no relevance whatsoever/is now stupid and noncanon because they're just adult LARPers pretending to be delinquents.

Bullying victims: They pay thousands of dollars to go to a school to pretend to be highschoolers so they can be bullied into possible suicide by pretend bullies??? Why not just leave?? Why not just sue?? They're adults aren't they?

Hanako: This shit is even worse now that they're "both adults" pretending to be kids. Being a clingy little sister is one thing, being a clingy little sister pretending to be a kid and not wanting your adult brother to date or have a social life is even fucking worse.

Mida: I guess she won't be interested in any of the students now that they're all adults and she only "likes the taste of little boy saliva".

Everyone is just a creepy pervert that cant move out of their parents homes now, now wonder the headmaster carries around a tazer and is drinking himself to death, I fucking would too if I had to deal with women in their mid 20s wearing pigtails and scrunchies everyday screaming "senpai" every 20 seconds.

I'd like to add that this is basically "hey, she may look like a minor, but she is actually 10 000 years old vampire/dragon/alien" shit. "They are visiting school, they look like children, they do child stuff, they live with their parents, but are they actually children? Of course, not!"
