Communism is attractive to children. Everyone does their fair share (which is conveniently only the fun stuff that they want to do -- no cleaning toilets, flipping burgers, or cleaning bedpans) and everyone gets their fair share. Anyone with an ounce of experience and a basic understanding of human nature can see why this will never, ever work. On paper, like most utopias, it looks achievable. Factor in the frailty of humans and you see why it is impossible.

I'll never understand how you can think white people are evil monsters born with the original sin of "whiteness" and they take pleasure in making earth a living hell for everyone else, but under communism white people are saved and suddenly see everyone as equals and we'll never know racism or homophobia or sexism or poverty or war ever again. And they all live happily ever after.

I know the universe needs the optimism of youth to counteract the cynicism of old age, but can we not have a retarded version of it?

Serious doubts on the broken ankle. If you have ever broken an ankle or know anyone who has, then you know that shit is incredibly painful and it's not something you can easily fake. Any movement, no matter how slight, would cause a ton of pain. Her ankle would also be incredibly swollen and the pain would continue to worsen the longer she goes without getting it treated. There's no way she would be able to sleep without a cast unless she has some serious pain meds on hand.

I had a girlfriend who broke her foot just getting out of bed; she was sleeping against the wall and jumped over me, rolling it badly when she landed.

The first two days it was badly swollen & she could limp along, but by day three it looked like her foot had been beaten with a baseball bat & she couldn't walk at all. Landing funny chipped the end off some small bones in her ankle, and all they gave her to take home for pain was Motrin.

In its original theory Communism is supposed to be a Great Unificator - there aren't any religious conflicts as "religion is the opiate of the masses" and must be erased, there aren't any ideological conflicts as Communism is the One True Ideology, there aren't any national conflicts or borders as "Workingmen of all countries unite", and similarly there are no ethnic or racial conflicts as all oppressed join against their oppressors and after the Revolution achieves its goals all will be well.

I hope I won't have to detail how practice deviated from every one of these supposed core tenets.

I think that in their minds, nothing would change under communism. Everything would be exactly the same as it is now. Only, instead of earning 0 dollars for not working, they’d get a substantial monthly income. Enough to buy vegan pizzas every week and all the plastic transformers.

The work would still be left to the people who are working now. They say that life would be better for everyone under their interpretation of communism, but it wouldn’t be. Even if they got exactly what they’re espousing, it wouldn’t. Factory workers would still be abused and forced to work long hours just to feed their families whilst leeches like Alyssa and the Tranchers take half of their production earnings for no logical reason, other than they “feel” disabled.

Even worse, there was the Stakhanovite movement in the Eastern Bloc: essentially a "work race" to surpass quotas, often by several times. The workers who weren't enthusiastic enough about it were deemed "reactionaries", a catch-all term for people of insufficient ideological purity. Communism also created different classes of workers, with heavy industry at the top and agriculture at the bottom.

If this girl had come up in a religious environment (with the right influences), Alyssa would absolutely be a True Believer in the evangelical world/circuit, along with being a lot more successful. The best proselytizers do what she does, only with scripture & prophets.
