Misty's talking to the judge who yeeted her parental rights. I would guess the judge questioned why Misty would build a new... extension? of the shack instead of making sure it was clean, not hoarded, not full of vermin, and that both kids had a safe place to sleep / eat / bathe in hot water.

It looks like the two side walls existed previously, but that the roof had collapsed and the whole thing was a derelict pile of debris and hoard. Recall that Misty blamed Aurora for stepping on a rusty blender blade "because I told her not to play on the back porch!" This was the area she was referring to all those years ago, I assume.

But re-building the back lean-to was not a priority as far as getting her children back. Misty was probably told to clean out the debris and put a proper door in for safety, but there are so many other safety issues in that shack, spending money to make another useless uninsulated room - that will just collapse again in a few years due to shoddy construction - was completely bonkers.

If your basic dwelling is safe I don't think the court cares whether you make a new porch or not. Misty has a way of picking a single unimportant part of the issue and going to war on it. Looking at your post here you appear to be correct. Code enforcement is always lax in poor neighborhoods like Misty's. Code Enforcement would prefer to focus their attention on areas where the property owner actually has the money to make repairs and pay fines. It's always been like that. It's by no means impossible to get Code Enforcement out to check on a property in a poor area, but in my experience you need to keep on their asses about it. They'll always treat it as a lower priority.

I'd like to introduce you all to Misty's greatest delusion yet. You see, after 20 years, she believes Allstate is about insure her home. Not only that - "Allstate" has told her that her home and property are worth $250,000.00. Because it's a classic, guys! All those original details. Like the electrical.

Theory one: Misty is trying to get home insurance after 20 years of not understanding why no one will give it to her. She talked the ear off a sales agent in her loneliness, and narced away about the fine classic details of her 100 year old home. The agent told her the could potentially qualify for up to as much as $250k... pending a visit and home inspections. If Misty is stupid enough to allow inspections, I feel bad for her, because we all know what that will result in. She's too crazy to know better and she can't help that.

Theory two: she got got by a scammer, again.

There's not a house in Misty's neighborhood that's valued over $50k; it's a run down, crime and poverty ridden place. Her home has an estimated value of between twelve and twenty thousand dollar on the major realtor sites, and that's only because no one has seen the condition since it was sold to her for $19k twenty years ago.

Oh lord Misty, the rebuild cost isn't the actual value of a home and your home certainly isn't worth more than 10k max. They're telling you how much it would cost to rebuild from the ground up, and if your place goes down, you're not getting that money at all, the contractors will get it. Allstate doesn't fuck around either, they will send people out to inspect the home, they'll make sure it's actually worth their time (hint, it's not.). I know someone who bought a home built in the mid 90s who couldn't get insurance with Allstate because the roof was too old and not professionally installed (someone did a DIY patch job.) One look at her bedbug and roach infested hovel, that electrical box, and the roof job will have the Allstate inspector running for the hills.

She'd be lucky if the thing burnt to the ground honestly.
