She was killed in wartime as a small child. Their father brought home photographs of their dead half sister (how did his wife feel about this? Not great, one presumes.)

Misty uses Chi's memory as an unrealized ideal sister who would have bought all of her bullshit and done her bidding in dumb drama.

Um...his name was Richard. And she was not killed in wartime. My father was stationed over there but he was not at war.

That would have been either of my Grandfathers or Uncles. I think Uncle Gary (older brother of my Mom), he died of Agent Orange before I was born might have been over there during wartime. I've got to do some more digging.

Chi is a surname in China and Korea, it's used as a given name in Vietnam though.

Also Agent Orange wasn't used in Korea, it was used in Vietnam.

Sounds like the mythical Korean sister was Vietnamese...

I called your dad Father Ray, i.e. the head of the household you grew up in, to distinguish between the two Richards. Pater and Paterfamilias are common Latin words still in use today.

Sorry, I'll be less mysterious: Richard wanted to see his former foster mother, the one he was really bonded to.

The former foster mom let Misty into Richard's life out of what seems to be a kind heart, leaving Richard to be placed yet again. This lead Richard to his final placement where he has been adopted. Remember that one foster mom Misty used to sing praises about because she was seeing Richard at visits, instead of accusing her of kidnapping? It's that one.

His new family arranged for Richard to see this lady, and it seems like the lady fucked up once again and immediately told Misty about the planned outing so Misty could crash it.

There's always the outside chance Richard was talking to Aurora (rather than texting) and let slip the news. His phone was checked for texts to or from his sister about the visit, but there were none.
